(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 8 provinces. According to this report, 12 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 16 were illegally arrested.

1. [Beijing] Six Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Six Practitioners were tried by the Wenyuhe Court, Chaoyang District, on December 26, 2016. Ms. Mao Fenglan was sentenced to six years, Mr. Tao Yongchun to three and a half years, and Ms. Xu Lingli to three years in prison. Ms. Xiao Lianhong, Ms. Sun Jinxia, and Mr. Ma Zhenmin were each sentenced to two years in prison.

2. [Beijing] Ms. Yang Jingxia and Another Practitioner Taken to Brainwashing Center

Ms. Yang Jingxia and another practitioner from Dazhuangke Township, Yongning Town, were arrested and taken to the Mafang Brainwashing Center, Kangzhuang Town on the afternoon of January 8, 2017, by officers from the Yongning Police Station and officials from the Comprehensive Management Office.

The police ransacked a home of a practitioner whose last name is Cheng.

3. [Zhenlai County, Jilin Province] Ms. Liang Dan Officially Placed Under Arrest

Ms. Liang Dan was arrested by officers from the Zhenlai County Domestic Security Division on the afternoon of December 23, 2016. She was held in the Baicheng City Detention Center. She has been officially placed under arrest.

4. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Dong Yanhua, Ms. Mu Xiaomei, and Ms. Yang Yulan were arrested by officers from the Jincheng Police Station on January 6, 2017, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. They were taken to the Weizigou Detention Center. Ms. Mu was taken away that evening in handcuffs. Her whereabouts are unknown.

5. [Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Bu Rumei Given a Two-Year Prison Term

Ms. Bu Rumei was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan on December 29, 2016.

6. [Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhou Xiuying Arrested

Ms. Zhou Xiuying was recently arrested. The police ransacked her home and confiscated over 30 copies of Falun Gong books.

7. [Jingshan County, Hubei Province] Ms. Peng Peiwen Arrested

Ms. Peng Peiwen was arrested on January 8, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong.

8. [Jingtai County, Gansu Province] Ms. Miao Cuihua Detained

Elderly Ms. Miao Cuihua was coerced into leaving home by Wang Cun, head of the Jingtai County Police Department's Domestic Security Division, on the morning of December 30, 2016. She was arrested and taken to the police department for interrogation. She was then taken to the Jingtai Detention Center for five days of detention.

9. [Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Chen Shang and Husband Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Chen Shang and her husband were arrested in 2008. Ms. Chen was sentenced to ten years in prison and taken to the Shenyang Women's Prison. Her husband's prison term was around eight years. The couple's whereabouts are unknown.

10. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Zhang Hongfeng Arrested

Mr. Zhang Hongfeng, a temporary resident in Dongling District, was arrested on January 5, 2017 by officers from the Shenyang Police Department, when he was working at an odd job. The officers confiscated his van and Falun Gong books.

11. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Jingzhe Taken to Pingluo Women's Prison

Ms. Wang Jingzhe was sentenced to six years in prison by the Heping District Court. She has been taken to the Pingluo Women's Prison.

12. [Xinmin City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Chunfeng Tortured

Mr. Li Chunfeng, whose legal name is Dai Shubao, was arrested by officers from the Liaozhong District Police Department and the Xinmin Police Department on the evening of December 12, 2016. He was tortured that evening in the Liaozhong Police Department when the officers tried to make him confess. The officers ransacked his rental home and confiscated three computers, over ten printers, several cell phones, and various supplies.

It was reported that Mr. Li was severely beaten and locked to a metal ring secured to the ground. He is held in the Liaozhong District Detention Center.

13. [Chongqing] Mr. Zou Yu Detained

Mr. Zou Yu from Tongnan District was reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He was arrested at home by Tang Yong, Li Hengyi, and officers from the Tongnan Police Department's Domestic Security Division at noon on January 5, 2017, and held in a detention center for 15 days.

14. [Qingzhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Dong Guiwen Tried Again

Ms. Dong Guiwen was arrested on March 7, 2016. She was tried again on January 3, 2017 (This was the fifth trial held against her). Her family was not allowed to attend the trial.

The first trial was held on March 20, 2016, and her family was not notified. Ms. Dong was sentenced to a four-year prison term, and has filed an appeal. Her case was returned to the Qingzhou Court and the second trial was held on August 31, 2016.

15. [Anyang City, Henan Province] Ms. Li Fuqin Tried

Wenfeng District Court tried Ms. Li Fuqin on the morning of January 5, 2017. Ms. Li has been detained for about five months. She stated her personal experience of how she benefited from practicing Falun Gong. She said she distributed informational materials in order to let people know the truth and have a good future. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea.

Ms. Li is in her sixties. She was healthy before the arrest. She was tortured in Anyang Detention Center, which caused her blood pressure to rise to 180~190.

16. [Dandong City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zheng Shuchun Sentenced

Ms. Zheng Shuchun was tried on December 13, 2016 by the Yuanbao District Court. The verdict was issued on December 15, but Ms. Zheng’s lawyer didn’t receive the notification until recently. He learned that Ms. Zheng was sentenced to seven and a half years’ imprisonment and fined 20,000 yuan. Ms. Zheng has appealed to Dandong Intermediate’s Court.

17. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zhao Haijun Transferred to Prison

Mr. Zhao Haijun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin City, was transferred to Hulan Prison on January 4, 2017 to serve an eight year jail sentence.

Mr. Zhao was arrested on May 6, 2016 for suing Jiang Zemin. He was tried on August 26 and sentenced to eight years on September 23. The judge also fined him 10,000 yuan.

Mr. Zhao's wife and two daughters visited him at Shuangcheng Detention Center the day before his prison transfer. They noticed that he appeared to be emaciated and they are very worried about his well being.

The three women tried to visit him again the next day, but were blocked outside by the guards at Hulan Prison.

18. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Jiaze Sentenced

Mr. Liu Jiaze was arrested for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese leader who launched the persecution of Falun Gong. He was recently sentenced to three years in prison. Mr. Liu has filed an appeal to Shenyang Intermediate’s Court.

19. [Tianjin] Ms. Liu Aiping Sentenced

Personnel from Binhai New District went to the Wuqing Detention Center and delivered a verdict to Ms. Liu Aiping on December 30, 2016. She was sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment and fined 10,000 yuan. Ms. Liu has submitted an appeal.
