(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 10 provinces. According to this report, 8 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 50 were illegally arrested.
Mr. Yu Yanjie was tried for the second time in the Daxing District Court on December 28, 2016. He was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 4,000 yuan.
Ms. Li Guanglan from the Shangcheng area in Zaoyuan, Huangcun Town, the Daxing District, was tried at the Daxing District Court on August 17, 2016. She was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 2,000 yuan on December 28, 2016.
Mr. Kang Lijun was sentenced to four years in prison in December 2016.
Three practitioners were tried at the Aihui District Court on the morning of December 6, 2016. Mr. Huang Tao was sentenced to a seven-year prison term to be served outside prison for health reasons. Mr. Zhang Xianchen and Ms. Zhu Xiuming were each sentenced to six months with one-year probation.
Mr. Meng Xiange, Ms. He Yan, Mr. Yang Xiaohui, Mr. Zhang Jinhua, Mr. Chu, Mr. Liu, and two other practitioners were arrested by Daliu Town Police Station officers on the morning of January 2, 2017, for handing out calendars containing Falun Gong information.
Several officers from the Taishitun Town Police Station in the Miyun District broke into Ms. Xia Shufang's constitution materials store and arrested her on January 2, 2017. Her home was ransacked. She was taken to the police station and remains in custody there. No family visits have been allowed..
Ms. Wang Xuemei and Ms. Wang Zujing were arrested on January 1, 2017.
Mr. Zhu Dajiang from the Guanlan area in the Longhua New Area was arrested on January 1, 2017, for distributing Falun Gong materials.

Ms. Sheng Xiuhuan, Ms. Wu Hengzhi, Ms. Wang Zhi, Mr. Zheng Yongxin, Mr. Zhang Zhenrong, Mr. Wang Dianshuang, Ms. Li Shuchun, Mr. Lan Guangfei, and another practitioner from Aohan Banner were arrested and taken to the Kangjiayingzi Township Police Station and later to the Aohan Banner Domestic Security Division for handing out New Year paintings with information about Falun Gong. Ms. Li Shuchun and Mr. Lan Guangfei were released that evening. The other seven practitioners were taken to the Aohan Banner Detention Center.
Ms. Liu Fangxiang from the Dongcheng Neighborhood was arrested on December 29, 2016, for talking to people about Falun Gong at a farmers’ market.
Mr. Hu Dawei was arrested in the Changchun Economic Development Zone on December 30, 2016. The police ransacked his home and confiscated Falun Gong books and a computer. He is held in the Ji'an Detention Center.
Ms. Huang Haiying, Ms. Liu Youqing, and four other practitioners were reported for talking to people about Falun Gong in mid-December 2016. Two practitioners escaped, but Ms. Huang, Ms. Liu, and the other two practitioners were arrested.
Ms. Dong Xiaoli from the Shanhetun Forestry Bureau was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison. She appealed to the Heilongjiang Province Linqu Intermediate Court, but the court upheld the original verdict.
Ms. Yan Xiaomei from the Hongshan District passed away on December 29, 2016. She was repeatedly persecuted by the Wuhan City 610 Office, the Domestic Security Division of the city police department, the neighborhood administration office, and brainwashing centers.
Ms. Wang Weizhen from the Zhongshan District was arrested at home by officers from the Xiuyue Police Station on December 16, 2016. She is being held in the Yaojia Detention Center.
Five elderly women from Huili County were sentenced on December 29, 2016, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. Ms. Ma Lingxian was sentenced to one year and four months in prison. Ms. Shen Jiafeng was sentenced to one year in prison with one year probation. Ms. Luo Jiping, Ms. Dong Xiuqiong, and Ms. Zheng Qiong were each sentenced to one year in prison.
Seven local Falun Gong practitioners were sentenced to prison for refusing to renounce their faith. They were arrested on April 21, 2016, and tried in late October.
Ms. Fu Shujiao and Mr. Zhu Guoxing were each given three-and-a-half years.
Ms. Ge Ling and Mr. Wei were each give four years; both are appealing their sentences.
Ms. Hao Huilan, Ms. Li Zhenglin and Ms. Zhu Zhiying were each sentenced to three years.
Mr. Liang Baofan was recently transferred to Gongzhuling Prison to serve a four-year term. His family was told to wait at least a month before they could see him.
Mr. Liang was arrested on June 17, 2015, for suing former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for ordering the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his past detention. The Procuratorate initially returned his case to the police, citing insufficient evidence, but later indicted him.
Mr. Liang was tried on March 4, 2016, without his lawyer's or family's knowledge. He was sentenced to four years in November 2016. The local authorities refused to allow him to hire a lawyer, so his wife offered to defend him. Judge Shan Lianhong, however, refused to allow her to review the case file.
The outcome of Mr. Liang's appeal remains unclear.
Fengman District Court sentenced Ms. Liu Shengcao, a young teacher, to four years’ imprisonment on December 30, 2016. She has appealed to Jilin Intermediate’s Court.
Her brother Liu Jiecao decided to defend her during the second trial.
Huilai County Court tried Mr. Wu Changqing and his daughter Ms. Wu Yuezhen on December 30, 2016. Three lawyers defended them.
The trial lasted five and a half hours with no recess. Only three family members were allowed to be present. Three or four people from Mr. Wu’s wife’s work unit attended. The others present at the trial were brought in by the court.
Plainclothes officers broke into Mr. Zhao Shifeng’s computer shop on the evening of October 11, 2016. They found six people reading Zhuan Falun on the second floor. Mr. Zhao and the six practitioners were arrested.
Other officers broke into Jinxing Inn the same day and arrested the owner, Mr. Meng Guangfeng.
Both Mr. Zhao and Mr. Meng were taken to the Zhaoyuan County Detention Center and held for 30 days. Their arrests were not approved. Both of them were released after paying 10,000 yuan in bail.
A female practitioner in her 60s was rejected by the detention center because of her heart problem and high blood pressure. The other five practitioners were held for 15 days and charged with “impeding law enforcement.”
