(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Weizhen, a 68-year-old retired colonel, was taken to the Liaoning Province Women's Prison on January 5, 2017. She was sentenced to eight years on December 6, 2014 for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was later released on medical parole.
Ms. Wang, from Dalian City, is a former military doctor and retired lecturer from the Dalian Medical School of Shenyang Military Region. While out on medical parole, she was arrested on December 16, 2016 and held at Yaojia Detention Center.
Ms. Wang's family received a phone call from the prison on January 5, 2017 and learned that the detention center had secretly transferred her to the prison without notifying her family.
Her family went the next day to the prison in Shenyang to visit her. However, prison authorities rejected their visitation request, saying that Ms. Wang was undergoing a two-month training session in the Intensive Training Unit and that family visits were not allowed during that time.
Liaoning Province Women's Prison is notorious for its brutal treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. According to sources, the two-month training (essentially brainwashing) session targets Falun Gong practitioners and attempts to force them to renounce their belief.
According to Ms. Wang's family, her blood pressure was as high as 230 mmHg when she was taken to the prison.
The family asked the prison if they could apply for medical parole for Ms. Wang. The prison authorities said that she would be kept in prison regardless of her physical condition, as long as she does not have an incurable disease.
Ms. Wang was arrested on May 18, 2012 while telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and confiscated four computers, two printers, and other personal belongings. She was taken to Dalian Detention Center. The detention center refused to admit her, as she failed the required physical exam.
Zhongshan District Procuratorate and Zhongshan Police Department then filed charges against Ms. Wang. On October 29, 2014, she was tried by Zhongshan District Court on the charges of “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement,” a common charge used by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to imprison Falun Gong practitioners in its persecution of the spiritual practice.
