(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Qingyang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Guangzhou City, was tried again by the Panyu District Court on December 27, 2016. During the first trial, the defense attorney asked the court to exclude the evidence that was unlawfully obtained.
Mr. Liu was charged with “colluding with overseas forces” because he accessed the Internet beyond China's state-regulated firewall. He was arrested a year ago, on December 3, 2015.
The prosecutor presented two new pieces of evidence during the second trial.
The first piece of evidence was a statement from the Panyu Domestic Security Division, which stated that they were notified by a higher-level authority that Mr. Liu visited the Minghui website, an overseas Falun Gong website. They said that they had been monitoring him for five months. When Mr. Liu's lawyer asked who the higher-level authority was, the prosecutor did not answer.
The second piece of evidence was a search warrant with police notes that the prosecutor claimed the arresting officers signed and read aloud to Mr. Liu before the arrest. However, Mr. Liu's wife and her parents, who were present at the time, said that the police never produced a search warrant or read anything to them. Mr. Liu said that the evidence was fabricated.
More than 100 people, Mr. Liu's friends and relatives, asked to attend the hearing, but were refused. Only Mr. Liu's family members were allowed to attend.
After the trial Mr. Liu's wife told him that she and their child were waiting for his return. Their child is nearly one year old and was born after he was arrested. He has not yet seen the child.
A Good Employee and Husband
Mr. Liu works at an automobile supply company and was a manager at a car dealership. He is a diligent worker and highly respected by his employer.
Mr. Liu was an excellent student, but was told by the school administration that he had to give up his spiritual belief, Falun Gong, or he could not take the university entrance exam. When he refused, he was denied the chance to further his studies and attend a university.
Mr. Liu's wife is a highly respected art teacher. Both she and her students have been awarded gold medals. Mr. Liu supports his wife and helps her students, despite being busy with his own work. He also takes care of his parents-in-law.
