(Minghui.org) Ms. Gu Yinghua, 60, was sentenced to six years in prison on June 15, 2016, for her belief in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Because no law in China deems Falun Gong a crime, Ms. Gu has appealed the unjust sentence to the Shenyang City Intermediate Court.
Ms. Gu's home was ransacked by the police when she was arrested one year ago. Her computer, printer, Falun Gong books, and about 1,000 yuan in cash were confiscated.

Prior to this sentence, the retired Shenyang Railway Bureau Central Hospital employee was twice given forced labor and once sentenced to seven years in Liaoning Women's Prison on May 1, 2006.
While imprisoned about a decade ago, Ms. Gu was brutally tortured and sustained severe injuries.
Prison guard Li Jing ordered inmates to beat Ms. Gu, telling them, “I won't reduce your sentence if you don't beat her.”
The inmates knew that Ms. Gu was a good person, and one of them commented, “I will feel guilty if I beat you, but if I don't do what the guards want, my sentence won’t be reduced.”
Inmate Li Shuhua and others sealed Ms. Gu's mouth with tape and pulled her by the hair out of the office to the meeting room.
They poured cold water over her and opened the window. It was winter, and the temperature was about minus 15 degrees. They also used a wet mop to repeatedly jab her ribs, breaking them.
