(Minghui.org) A foreign language teacher in Weifang City was arrested on February 2, 2016 for posting information about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
It is unclear if Ms. Yu Chunying has been released at the time of writing.
Ms. Yu’s latest arrest is preceded by two prior arrests for her faith.
She was first arrested on July 18, 2002. The police called her first to ensure that she’d be home. Two hours later, around midnight, they descended upon her residence and broke in. Two officers held her husband down on a sofa, while the rest searched the house. Her niece, a young girl who was visiting them, was so frightened that she couldn’t stop crying.
Ms. Yu jumped out of her second-floor apartment before the police came inside. She suffered spinal fractures as a result, and even today she still experiences constant back pain.
She also had to move from place to place to avoid arrest.
Ms. Yu was arrested again on March 18, 2011 and sent to a brainwashing center. She was interrogated all day and deprived of sleep. She was so exhausted that she once fell to the ground and lost consciousness during an interrogation session.
She wasn’t released until 11 days later, when she was diagnosed with heart palpitations. The brainwashing center also forced her family to pay 20,000 yuan.
A few days later, the local authorities ordered her school to send her back to the brainwashing center. She fled home, and the brainwashing center director went to harass her husband instead.
While Ms. Yu was not in detention for her faith, she faced constant harassment from her school and local authorities. They would either call or show up at her door, trying to pressure her to give up her belief. Her salary was also suspended on multiple occasions.
