(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Meihong (李美虹) from Jiexi County was tried in mid-March 2015.
She was detained for seven months before the trial and the legally permitted pre-trial term had passed.
Her lawyer pleaded not guilty and demanded that the judge, Ouyang Liping, protect Ms. Li's rights.
At the trial, the prosecutor repeatedly asked questions about Falun Gong that were defamatory, which Ms. Li refused to answer. The prosecutor suggested that she answer, so that the court could proceed. He claimed that she would get a more lenient ruling if she cooperated.
Liu Zhengqing, her attorney, immediately instructed Ms. Li not to answer irrelevant questions.
He told the court that Ms. Li was innocent of any crime.
Furthermore, he accused the court of prejudging Ms. Li because of pressure from the 610 Office. He included in his defense statement that the 610 Office was an illegal organization, and the recording taken by its agents, who secretly monitored his client, could not be used as evidence.
Judge Ouyang interrupted Liu whenever he mentioned Falun Gong.
At the end of the trial, the prosecutor called for a sentence of at least seven years.
Judge Ouyang adjourned the court and said that the verdict would be handed down at a later date.
