(Minghui.org) A terminally ill woman never got to see her husband again after his arrest seven months prior for distributing information about the persecution of Falun Gong. She passed away on March 20.
Mr. Wang Xianshu was arrested in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan Province on August 4, 2014. His wife, who was fighting for her life in their hometown in Sichuan Province, traveled back and forth between the two provinces (180 miles apart) hoping to see him, but the Yunnan authorities turned her away each time.
The couple's daughter hired an attorney to defend her father, but the lawyer wasn't allowed to see Mr. Wang either. When the attorney mentioned the wife’s illness while trying to secure a meeting between the two of them, a police officer shouted, “So what's the big deal about her being sick? She can’t see him even if she dies!”
The police refused to let the couple see each other again when Mr. Wang's wife was in critical condition on March 17, claiming that he was a “political criminal” and thus his case was a state secret.
Mr. Wang still does not know about his wife's passing at the time of writing.
Mr. Wang Languishes in Police Custody with No End in Sight
The police in Zhenxiong County, Zhaotong City in Yunnan had secured a set of dubious witnesses against Mr. Wang in preparation for trial. Besides the person who reported Mr. Wang to police, the police produced another policewoman and the sister of a government official. The Zhenxiong County Procuratorate, Zhaotong City Procuratorate, Zhongxiong County Court, and Zhaotong City Court all cited insufficient evidence and refused to take the case.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wang remains in police custody nearly eight months later,
