(Minghui.org) I was illegally detained for five months at a local detention center for practicing Falun Gong. During my time there, I encountered more than 30 detainees from a variety of backgrounds.
More than twenty detainees were held in a single, small room, less than 430 square feet in size. All of our daily activities, including eating, forced labor, and going to the bathroom were done in the same room. Many people found adjusting to the harsh environment difficult. A few even wanted to kill themselves to end the suffering.
I often tried to comfort the others. I talked to them about the cause and effect of things in life. They asked me to sing Falun Gong songs for them to soothe their pain.
A girl in her early twenties was repulsed by the food on the first night of her stay. She threw her bowl to the ground and said, “This is worse than what the pigs and dogs eat at my home.” She was unable to sleep that night and was restless.
She calmed down the next morning as she listened to practitioners and detainees sing Falun Gong songs. She learned three songs and sang them every day during her month in the detention center. She told me that she would share the songs with her family and friends.
The day of her release she cried and thanked me for my help. “My bad temper has improved a lot. I will become a good daughter, wife, and mother after I return home!”
An accounting firm owner was detained because her client had committed fraud. She was studying law. When she learned I was a Falun Gong practitioner, she spoke to me like she was a judicial staff member. She even pretended she didn't know how to sing. About ten days later, she began to sing Falun Gong songs every day.
A month before her release she told me, “I have a brand new understanding of Falun Gong now, thanks to you. I know that Falun Gong practitioners are the best!”
Detainees frequently told me that Falun Gong songs brought them inner peace. Many of the detainees I encountered learned the facts about the persecution, and chose to quit the Chinese communist organizations.
