(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Maolian was tried on March 2 this year for telling people about the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong. Her lawyer defended her constitutional right to believe in Falun Gong and tell others about the practice.
The judges remained silent for most of the lawyer's defense argument. In the end, one judge admitted, “We never said she was wrong or guilty.” The session was then adjourned without any verdict issued.
Ms. Li was arrested on October 8 last year and has since been held at Weifang City Detention Center. The guards did not allow the family to visit her or send her any winter clothes. However, they demanded that the family pay a high “living expense” for Ms. Li in the detention center.
Ms. Li's child and her 80-year-old mother-in-law have now left home to fend for themselves. Her mother-in-law worries that Ms. Li would be mistreated in the detention center, as the torture of imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners is widespread in China.
