(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners are being incarcerated and persecuted in Jiuquan Prison in Gansu Province. Below is just a sampling of what has taken place there.
Mr. He Lizhong from Wuwei
At the beginning of 2011, Mr. He Lizhong from Wuwei was held in the 4th District of Jiuquan Prison. Mr. He explained the facts about Falun Gong to the collaborators and others, which was then used as an excuse to place him in the guardhouse. The 4th Ward has managed the guardhouse since December 1998.
Zhang Zhi was head of the guardhouse, with Zhu Zhicai acting as the guardhouse “instructor.” Prisoners assigned to monitor Mr. He included Libo, Li Jinjun, and others. Only two meals consisting of a tiny steamed bun and a bowl of noodle soup were served each day. Mr. He was forced to stand still facing the guardhouse window all day except when he ate. He allowed to go to sleep only after 10 p.m.
At first, three prisoners were assigned to monitor Mr. He in the guardhouse. Later, this number increased to six. Guardhouse head Pu Yongbin and instructors Zhang Zhi and Zhu Zhicai were in charge of “transforming” Mr. He. They insinuated to other inmates that they should curse and beat Falun Gong practitioners. They could simply state their intentions: “Don't be too polite to him.” Understanding the implication, the inmates would start cursing Mr. He vehemently and humiliate him. One time during a meeting that Pu Yongbin and team head Jiang organized, all the 4th Ward prisoners criticized Mr. He. Pu himself announced, “If I were the national leader, I would kill all of you (Falun Gong practitioners).”
Severe persecution in the guardhouse lasted over a month, and Mr. He spent the 2011 Chinese New Year there. Later, Mr. He was transferred to the 2nd Ward and made to do forced labor.
Between June and July 2011, Jiuquan Prison constructed five cages for guardhouses in the 4th Ward. Mr. He was then transferred back to the 4th Ward from the 2nd and placed in a cage from 7 a.m. to noon daily. From 2-6 p.m., he was forced to do military drills in the recreation yard. At night, he was forced to stand motionless in the cage. This went on until the end of 2011, when he was transferred back to the 2nd Ward.
Mr. Zhang Dengchun
Around July or August 2009, Mr. Zhang Dengchun was held in the 4th District of Jiuquan Prison. Mr. Zhang was over 70 years old at the time. He had previously been severely persecuted in a detention center and was in great pain. He wasn't able to stand in place, and, so that he wouldn't fall, he often had to hold onto things just to walk.
Instructor Pu Yongbin, sub-warden head Li Hulin, and instructor Ma Xiaosa attempted to “transform” Mr. Zhang and get him to give up Falun Gong. After their attempts failed, they assigned prisoners Shen Heqiang, Ma Yingxiang, and Ma Shirui to continue to try to “transform” him.
During June or July, 2010, these prisoners read articles slandering Falun Dafa to him in the hallway on the first floor of the first sub ward. They cursed and threatened him and spit on him if they were not pleased. They also deprived him of sleep, making him stay awake until 4 a.m., then woke him up at 5:30 a.m. Other inmates often beat him because he walked slowly due to pains on his legs and back. Prisoner Ma Yingxiang was given a reduced sentence as a reward for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
From December 2010 to January 2011, the seasonal temperatures were often below minus 10 degrees. Guards ordered the prisoners to hold Mr. Zhang without head protection in the corridor where the wind blew. On several occasions when there was heavy snowfall, the prisoners forced him to walk in the snow without a hat.
Mr. Zhang was transferred to the health section from May to June 2011. Guards assigned another prisoner, Yu Senhua, to monitor him. Because that inmate tortured him so severely, within a month, Mr. Zhang could not get out of bed and was incontinent. Although they once sent Mr. Zhang to a hospital outside of prison, they did not release him on parole for medical treatment until his health worsened, his condition was critical, and the prison officials wanted to avoid being held responsible.
Mr. Li Guoxian from the Ganzhou District in Zhangye
On November 10, 2011, Mr. Li Guoxian was illegally sentenced by Zhangye Court in Ganshu Province to three years in prison. He was transferred to the 4th District of Jiuquan Prison.
Mr. Li was placed immediately in the guardhouse. He was subjected to long-term standing and starvation. At the end of 2011, Mr. He Lizhong (see above) was released from the cage and transferred to the 2nd District. The guards immediately placed Mr. Li into the vacated cage. To show that he still got some human nature, guard Ma Qing allowed people locked in the cages to get out and watch TV a few times during the 2012 Chinese New Year when he was on duty. However, Ma still directed prisoners to closely watch them and did not allow them to talk with anyone or walk around. Mr. Li was held in the cage until May 2012.
