(Minghui.org) On May 19, 2012 at approximately 8:20 a.m., Falun Gong practitioner Zhan Xingmao from Jiangdu, Yangzhou, while being held in Hongzehu Prison of Jiangsu Province began practicing the Falun Gong exercises. The prison guard then ordered inmates to attack him. Inmate Sun Hengxiang jumped Mr. Zhan from behind and choked him while inmate Dong Linlin grabbed his waist and forced him down; inmate Li Ming pushed Mr. Zhan's head hard to the floor, then a fourth inmate Xu Zengxian held his legs.
The guard watched the entire process, then ordered the inmates: “Pin him down hard, so he can't move at all.” Inmate Sun Hengxiang grabbed Mr. Zhan's legs and forced them toward his head backwards - a very dangerous position, while about 100 inmates watched in dead silence.
Falun Gong practitioner Weng Hongwu tried to stop them, shouting: “What are you doing? Do you want to break his leg? Can you take responsibility if you critically injure him?” Inmate Sun Hengxiang ran away immediately. Guard Zhang Yuansheng - who instigated everything then reported this action to No. 11 prison district Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Secretary Wang Zhiqiang. Wang Zhiqiang ordered inmate Dong Linlin and Cao Yong to bind Mr. Zhan and drag him to the No. 11 prison district fifth floor – a location specialized for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
From that day on, guards began intensified persecution against Mr. Zhan. He was restricted to limited times for bathroom breaks, not allowed to talk, move, or sleep; he was forced to sit on a small plastic bench all day, then allowed to sleep only two to three hours daily. Mr. Zhan refused their attempts of transformation, so from June 7, 2012, he was forced to undergo sleep deprivation while inmates took turns monitoring and torturing him.
Mr. Zhan was sentenced in 2000 to a year of forced labor camp; his sentence was then extended another year. Following his forced labor camp incarceration, he was transferred to Yangzhou Wutaishan Mental Hospital and Jiangdu Mental Hospital for three more years. Nerve-damaging drugs are often used to torture practitioners in mental hospitals such as these. He escaped from the mental hospital, but was again arrested and sentenced.

Falun Gong practitioner Zhan Xingmao is currently being monitored 24 hours daily by four inmates, and forced to study CCP propaganda materials attempting to “transform” him. The main perpetrators persecuting him include Wang Zhiqiang, Ye Zhichun and Wu Zhanghong.
