Shen Yun in Sydney, Australia: 'The sacredness was just very beautiful'

May 21, 2010 |

(Clearwisdom.net) The audience was thrilled by Shen Yun Performing Arts' last performance at Luna Park's Big Top Theatre, Wednesday, May 19. Viewers who had traveled to China and knew about its history were enchanted by the New York Company's depiction of classical Chinese dance and music, spanning China's rich and ancient culture.

Sajeela, a therapist and masseuse who mainly works with babies, was delighted by the show, exclaiming: "It was beautiful! Oh, the costumes are amazing, and to see the traditional dance ... I just love the music.

Sajeela, a therapist, who works with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

"I lived and worked in Beijing for two years doing medical massage for babies and adults, and Traditional Chinese Medicine."

Thus Sajeela had some insights to share with her experience of Traditional Chinese Medicine and her appreciation of China's ancient culture. She said of Shen Yun, "They have done it very tastefully ... in a place of great honour and holding tradition, which is beautiful ... and the dancers were well practiced ... very cohesive in their work together-that was beautiful.

"The sacredness of the whole thing was just very beautiful."

Sajeela was moved by the performances representing China's ethnic minorities in some of the dances and the current situation with people in China struggling to maintain cultural values. "I thought it was beautiful ... I think what was really beautiful is having the people share out front in Chinese and in English [referring to the two emcees], and then at the end when they waved goodbye which is so traditional, and the Chinese in the audience stood in honour and waved back. You don't see that in the West ... and it is probably even a lost thing in China as well."

'It's something that you remember for a long time'

Tina Wickram, IT consultant, attended with her husband John who said, "Fantastic show, excellent, thoroughly enjoyed it." Mrs. Wickram found it "awesome."

"It was lovely, beautiful colours, beautiful dancers, perfect," she said enthusiastically. "I'd say it is a definite must-to-see. It's something that you remember for a long time. Very light-hearted but also giving out a serious message of peace and, I think, unity ... especially the end, how it ended. I think from beginning to end it was like a story."

Mr. Wickram was also touched by the last piece. "It's quite good, it's part of China's history ... I have read and have seen some of their history."

Sharing her impression of the show's overall message, Mrs. Wickram enthused, "Plus not only was it mainland Chinese, we had Mongolian, Miao and Tibetan as well ... peace and unity."

Mrs. Wickram said both she and her husband will be attending one of the next Shen Yun performances in Sydney, February 2011, "Definitely, definitely!"
