(Clearwisdom.net) The New Castle County Council passed Resolution 10-071 in Louis L. Redding City/County Building in Wilmington, Delaware on April 27, 2010. The resolution, "Recognizing the Endurance and Sacrifice of Falun Gong Practitioners" "commemorates those practitioners of Falun Gong who have lost their lives in the peaceful defense of human rights and freedom of belief" and supports United States House Resolution 605.

The resolution States, "WHEREAS, two of the most important freedoms possessed by Americans are those of speech and pursuit of religion; and

WHEREAS, all citizens of the world should be afforded the ability to pursue the beliefs of their choosing; and

WHEREAS, in celebration of these principles, Falun Dafa practitioners will gather in cities throughout the world on May 13, 2010 to mark World Falun Dafa Day in celebration of the 18^th Anniversary of the first public teaching of Falun Dafa by Li Hongzhi.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that County Council of New Castle County hereby commemorates those practitioners of Falun Gong who have lost their lives in the peaceful defense of human rights and freedom of belief."

One of the sponsors of the resolution, Councilman William Tansey told Falun Gong practitioners he was supportive. He stood firmly on the side of those persecuted. Many of his family members died in concentration camps during World War II.

On June 13, 2006, the New Castle County Council unanimously passed a resolution which requested an international investigation of the Chinese concentration camps used to detain Falun Gong practitioners. Meanwhile, the resolution also called for the immediate end of the persecution of Falun Gong.
