Ms. Zhou Huimin Dies in Police Custody in Sichuan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) On the evening of September 26, 2007, officers from Shengdeng Police Station and the Domestic Security Division of Chenghua District Police Department arrested Ms. Zhou Huimin. The police ransacked her home and she was then taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center. Later she was detained at the Chengdu City Detention Center. On February 1, 2008, the Domestic Security Division of Wuhou District Police Department issued an "arrest warrant" for Ms. Zhou, although she had already been in custody for five months. She went on hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Mr. Zhang Zhijun Tortured to Death in Xi'an City Prison, Shaanxi Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Zhijun was from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. He had been illegally arrested and incarcerated because he practiced Falun Gong. On February 23, 2008, his family received a call that Mr. Zhang had died, and they rushed to the Xi'an City Prison in Shaanxi Province. The prison administration refused to let the family see Mr. Zhang's body. Finally, under the family's persistent demands, they were allowed to see Zhang Zhijun's body. His face was so bloated that it was very difficult to look at. There were obvious purple and blue rope marks on his neck. His family demanded legal representation, but lawyers present said that the higher officials had already ordered legal counsel. No one dared to accept this case. The police cremated the body on February 24, 2008.

Mr. Chong Cunjie from Hebei Province Dies as a Result of Persecution

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Chong Cunjie, 63 years old, was an employee of the Hebei Province (Hengshui City) Labor Camp. He began cultivating Falun Gong in 1995, and was the Hengshui City Falun Dafa Volunteer Assistant. On July 20, 1999, Mr. Chong was working in the Labor Camp. The Hengshui City Legal Bureau dispatched an employee to persuade Mr. Chong to go to the Bureau claiming that they only wanted to have a talk with him, but instead they arrested him. All of the Labor Camp employees pleaded that Mr. Chong be released, but he was sentenced to two years in prison. That was the first time he was sentenced to a prison term. He was released on July 26, 2001. At around 2:30 a.m. on February 13, 2002, two days after the Chinese New Year, he escaped arrest by climbing down a pipe from the fourth floor of his home building. He had to leave home to avoid arrest. However, he was arrested on March 16, 2002. He was sentenced to five years in prison, and released on March 16, 2007.
