(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Liu Peng and his wife, Ms. Zhang Xumei, live in Shanghai. Both have Masters degrees and are diligent Falun Gong practitioners. Liu Peng was a teacher at Shanghai Police College. They have been repeatedly arrested and detained sine the persecution began in 1999.
In the first half of 2000, the couple took their newborn son, Liu Heng, to protest the persecution of Falun Gong in Beijing. They were arrested. Liu Peng was jailed in a detention center. Zhang Xumei and their two-month-old son were detained in the middle school where she worked. A temporary brainwashing center was set up just for just the mother and the young son. Shortly after, Ms. Zhang was fired by the school.
In order to avoid responsibility for firing her, the management team of the school forced Ms. Zhang, who was on maternity leave, to resign. Later, they agreed to CCP requests to closely monitor her, pretending to be compassionate by offering her a janitorial job to alleviate her financial burden.
In July 2000, Liu Peng was transferred to the First Forced Labor Camp of Shanghai in Dafeng City, Jiangsu Province, and was brutally persecuted. Prison guards not only told inmates to torture him, but also handcuffed him and beat him with electric batons. His head, ears, nose, lips, neck, armpits, chest, back, hands, and feet were shocked such that the skin hissed from the severe burns. While the guards were ridiculing and laughing at him, he recited, "When it's difficult to endure, you can endure it. When it's impossible to do, you can do it." Since Liu Peng was determined in his beliefs, the CCP extended his jail time by half a year after the original two and a half year term had ended.
Around the 2003 Chinese New Year, Liu Peng was released. After spending half a year with his family, he was arrested again by Shanghai police. His home was ransacked. Shortly after that, wife Zhang Xumei was also arrested. Liu Peng was sentenced to one and a half years in a forced labor camp and Ms. Zhang was sentenced to one year. Because nobody could take care of their young child, she was allowed to fulfill her term outside the camp.
School officials fired Zhang Xumei again. She started to look for a job since she was responsible for the entire family.
Around the 2005 Chinese New Year, Liu Peng was again released from the forced labor camp. However, he was still often harassed and monitored by the police, such that he could not even find a job. The family's sole income was from Zhang Xumei's job at a private company owned by Taiwanese.
On the morning of February 21, 2008, Zhang Xumei was followed by plainclothes policemen while taking her son to school. After he went into the school, the policemen arrested her and took her house key. They ransacked their home and arrested Liu Peng.
The couple is currently illegally detained by the Shanghai Police Department. Several plainclothes policemen and policewomen participated in the arrest. The signature on the arrest warrant was the Party secretary of the neighborhood association. The police stole a computer and some truth-clarification VCDs from their home. Liu Heng was in second grade. His teacher agreed to police requests to deceive him, telling him that his parents were on business trips and they would not come home for a long time. It was arranged for him to live with a neighbor's family. His aunt picked him up after several days.
After losing his parents again, Liu Heng is anxious all the time. He cannot finish his homework or eat regularly. Liu Heng's aunt, Liu Hui, only works a part-time job and cannot afford his living expenses. A CCP member told her if she could not support him, he would be sent to the home of Liu Peng's parents in Shandong Province. Liu Peng's parents are very old and live in a poor farm village. Liu Peng's mother suffers from serious high blood pressure. The news that her son and daughter-in-law were arrested could be fatal to her health. Liu Peng's parents still have not heard the news.
