(Clearwisdom.net) I am a Dafa disciple that obtained the Fa in 1996 but wasn't diligent. When I first obtained the Fa, I was young and longed to do something with my life. I got complacent in studying the Fa and cultivating when I got into the school for Public Security. Before July 20, 1999, my “Fa” study was very shallow. Because of this, after July 20, 1999, I believed the evil Party's malicious slander. I was confused, wandered about, and even stopped cultivation. During that time, the pain of a life without Dafa cannot be described. I took up smoking and drinking again and it was even worse than before. I drank twice a day and never wanted to be sober, sometimes dreaming of death. Like being whipped with an invisible lash, I was blindly moving around but didn't know where I was going. With the help of other Dafa disciples, I once again held up Master's new scriptures, and once again bathed in Master's vast compassion. My heartfelt appreciation often moved me to tears.
In the last few years, I have stumbled and staggered around trying to follow the path of Fa rectification. I gradually established a small site for “truth clarification” materials at home. I took up editing videos and providing CDs and other materials to fellow practitioners. However, while talking about the three withdrawals face to face with people, I hadn't completely let go of fear yet. This continued until a few days ago, when something happened at work that shook my spirit and made me deeply feel Master's painstaking efforts and the urgency of saving people.
An elderly man came into the public security office where I worked. He had a broken umbrella in one hand, and his white hair was disheveled. It was very cold that day and his dirty clothes hung from him. He started to hit the desk with his umbrella and shouted loudly, “Who's in charge here!? I came to find your leaders for verification; I want to quit the Communist Party!” After he shouted he started to hit his face. I stared at him with a frozen look. I broke out of it when he started to move around. My co-workers beside me said, “He is an old retiree. He's already 80 years old, and doesn't have a clear mind. His brain's gone. Today actually counts as a good day. He usually carries a stick and beats whomever he sees. He shouts out 'withdraw from the Party' all day long.”
I felt restless for a long time after staring at the old man's back as he walked away that day. I became secretly determined to help him. In the days that followed, the elderly man began to come to my office every day. When I stood face to face to with him in a police uniform, fear and confusion sealed my mouth. I could only say considerate words, and truth clarification words wouldn't come out. Eventually he stopped coming around as much.
A few days ago, the old man came again. When he shouted out demanding verification for withdrawing from the Communist Party, I told myself I couldn't lose this chance again. I calmly said to him, “Old gentleman, you ask them for validation for Party withdrawal, do you think they will really give it to you?” His facial expression began to relax.
Suddenly, I didn't have any fear or inhibitions. I said to the old man, “Withdrawing from the Party is dependent only on yourself. If you want to withdraw from the Party from the bottom of your heart, then you've already done so. However, I can help you declare it publicly in a statement if you wish.”
In a later conversation we sat down and he mumbled to me his name, nickname, age and how to write his name all in great detail. My co-workers looked on from afar. At that moment, my heart grew warm with compassion. I leaned into the old man's ear and said loudly, “Old gentleman, no matter when it is, you need to remember that Falun Dafa is great, that Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance is good! If you remember this, you'll have the best fortune!”
After hearing my words, he began to smile with tears flowing down his face. He looked far into the distance and seemed to concentrate on something, continuously saying, “Ah... Good! Good!” That same evening, I sent in the old man's Party withdrawal declaration to the withdrawal website.
The next day I saw the old man's son. I asked him, “How is your father?” He replied, “He is a lot more stable than before. I just helped him bathe. He doesn't cause disturbances anymore.” On the third day, the old man peacefully passed away.
This incident left a deep impression on me for a very long time. Compassionate Master had arranged for the old man to come to meet me in the very last stage of his life, allowing him to listen to words of fortune and publicly declare his Party withdrawal, while at the same time helping me cultivate away my attachment of fear. The old man was able to withdraw from the evil Party and understand that Dafa is good just three days before he died. How much effort did his knowing side have to make, and how many tribulations had he withstood to have this opportunity? And if I hadn't grasped this opportunity, how much would have been lost? I deeply felt the heavy load that a Fa rectification period Dafa disciple carries on his shoulders. The three days between sending out the old man's declaration to the time he passed away made me profoundly understand the urgency of time.
The above is a bit of what I've come to understand from this experience. Please compassionately point out anything that doesn't meet the requirements of Dafa.
Finally let's review Master's scripture “Let Go of Human Attachments and Save the World’s People:”
“For a Fa-rectification period Dafa disciple, personal liberation is not the goal of cultivation: when you came, saving sentient beings was your great aspiration, and that is the responsibility and mission history has bestowed upon you in Fa-rectification. Thus great numbers of beings are to be saved by you. Dafa disciples, don’t forsake the magnificent responsibility that has been bestowed upon you in Fa-rectification, and even less should you disappoint those beings, as you are now their only hope for entering the future. For this reason, all Dafa disciples, students both new and veteran, should get to work and begin comprehensively clarifying the truth.”
