Council Member Nitido, with co-sponsorship by Members Scalzo, Brown, Coluccio, Curry-Cobb and DiPace, offered the following, which was adopted:
Resolution Number 71.122.00R
Resolution of the Common Council Honoring Falun Dafa
Whereas, Society is only as great as those institution that perform exemplary service on behalf of their community, whether through unique achievement in professional or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
Whereas, Falun Dafa is a self-improvement practice rooted in ancient Chinese culture, first introduced to the world by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992; and
Whereas, The core principles of Falun Dafa are Zhen, Shan and Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance); and
Whereas, The benefits of Falun Dafa have enabled the practice to spread to 40 countries, where it is practiced by more than 100 million people; and
Whereas, When practitioners of Falun Dafa adhere to Zhen, Shan and Ren, remarkable improvements in that person's health and mental well-being occur; and
Whereas, Since arriving in New York State Falun Dafa practitioners have given free seminars in libraries, bookstores, community centers and senior centers; and
Whereas, While New Yorkers have enjoyed the benefits of Falun Dafa, the government of China has launched a campaign against the practice; and
Whereas, Because his continued efforts to publicize the benefits of Falun Dafa, 30 professionals and governments officials have nominated Li Hongzhi for a Nobel prize;
Now Therefore, Be It Resolved, The Albany Common Council recognize that in Falun Dafa, we have a practice that promotes the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of its practitioners; and
Be It Further Resolved, The Albany Common Council issue this resolution in honor of Falun Dafa; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this proclamation be transmitted to Falun Dafa practitioners in the City of Albany.
Passed by the following vote of all the Council Members elected voting in favor thereof:
Affirmative--Council Members Brown, Coluccio, Curry-Cobb, DiPace, Hall, Herring, Igoe, Morris, Nitido, Scalzo, Torncello and Wallace--12. Negative--0. Abstained--0.
