Facts of the Persecution

In early 2002, Dafa practitioner Cheng Haiyan from Jiangsu Province was abducted and sent to the Beishan Detention Center in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Under pressure from the authorities, her husband was forced to divorce her and her only son had to publicly announce that he no longer considered her his mother. While in detention, Cheng was subjected to various tortures. Every time she came back from an interrogation, her entire body was covered with wounds. Near the end of August 2002, she was illegally sentenced to 10 years in prison. Cheng firmly rejected the verdict and went on a hunger strike to protest. She was so emaciated that she was almost beyond recognition.

In July 2000, Dafa practitioner Cheng Jinqiang from Zhongmu County, Henan Province went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested in Tiananmen Square and sent back to the Zhongmu County Police Department, where he was jailed for one week and the authorities extorted over 2000 yuan from his family [500 Yuan is the average monthly salary of an urban worker in China]. After he was released, the local "610 Office" still came to constantly harass, intimidate, and threaten his family. His mother developed high blood pressure as a result. In June 2003, he went out to distribute Dafa truth-clarification materials and was reported to the police, who arrested him and his wife. The couple was detained in the Zhongmu County Detention Center. Their home was also ransacked. During the detention, he was subjected to various tortures. Later, he was illegally sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Zhang Shaofeng and his wife Li Shuping both cultivate Falun Dafa, and they persist in clarifying the truth. In March 2003, they were sentenced to 8 years in prison and are now being held in the Jinzhou Prison and the Liaoning Province Women's Prison respectively.

Chen Yongdong is a practitioner from Chen Village, Anling Township, Jing County, (Hebei Province.) In October 1999, he went to Beijing to validate Dafa and was arrested by police. After he was sent back to his hometown, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison by the Jing County "610 Office." On February 6, 2004, Chen was again arrested and sent to Jing County Detention Center, where he was brutally tortured. The police shocked his face with electric batons. His body was black and blue from the beatings. Chen went on a hunger strike to protest and was force-fed.

Zhang Degui is a 57-year-old retired worker from a construction company in Guizhou Province. Last year the company planned to send him to a brainwashing class but was firmly rejected by him and his family. Later, his relatives moved him from Guiyang City to Anshun City. However, on December 15, 2003, the union leader Kang and party secretary Xie from his work unit used deceptive means and tricked Zhang to coming back to Guiyang. As soon as he returned, he was sent to Lannigou Brainwashing Center to be persecuted.

Crimes Committed by Labor Camp Official

Zhang Haiping is the head of the Jinzhou City Labor Camp. In 2002, his nephew Guo Wei was sent to the labor camp because he insisted on practicing Falun Gong. Under pressure, Guo Wei wrote a statement promising to give up his belief. However, Guo Wei soon came back to his senses and wrote a solemn statement declaring what he wrote before was void. Zhang was extremely angry after hearing this. He gathered police to hold a meeting and he asked them to do whatever possible to force Guo Wei to renounce his belief; otherwise, Zhang couldn't carry on the persecution of Falun Gong if he could not force his own nephew to renounce his belief. Policeman Zhang Chunfeng brutally beat Guo Wei until his hands started bleeding. Guo Wei's chest and ribs were also injured.
