(Clearwisdom.net) There is a 60-year-old practitioner living in a village in Hunan Province who is naturally deaf and mute. At first it was very hard for him to finish reading the book, Zhuan Falun, but he persevered. After practicing, all his illnesses disappeared. Now, he can write many of' the expressions Master used in lectures with precise handwriting. This amazes his fellow villagers since they all know that he didn't have much education.
This practitioner, like so many others, went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the facts, exercising his right to do so as a Chinese citizen. He was arrested and taken back to his village where he was beaten severely by local police. When they asked him to write the "three statements" [Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.] to "break off" from Falun Dafa, he wrote, "This time, I did not do well. Next time I will do better." One police officer punched him in the temple numerous times. Blood rushed to his' eyes and he lost sight. They drenched him with cold water and broke his leg so that he can no longer walk. Then, they ordered his family to carry him home.
His' home had been ransacked by police and everything was taken. All the windows were smashed, and even the bowls in the kitchen were taken. After arriving home, he did not blame those who hurt him, and instead looked inside himself. He found that his righteous thoughts were not strong enough. He continued to cultivate Dafa, to read the books and to practice the exercises, and seven days later, he could see again. Not long after, his leg also recovered.
For the past three years, besides studying the Fa and practicing the exercises, this practitioner spent much of his time performing physical labor for families in difficulty, those lacking people to do necessary hard labor. When he saw people needing help with planting rice shoots, he would volunteer to help. If he saw people needing help to carry heavy loads, he would also help. He would help fix the roads if he saw that they needed it. There were countless tasks like this that he contributed to. He never charged others money nor did he accept presents.
According to locals, during the 2003 floods, flood waters destroyed a part of the road. Even though the government paid for workers to fix it, there were always reasons for delays, and the work was never finished. It was very difficult for cars and travellers to cross the road. Following this practitioner's suggestion, a few local Falun Dafa practitioners asked a driver with a tractor to smooth out the soil along the road. The work was completed in a day. A few village leaders then came to thank the practitioners and shook hands with every one of them. They said, "Falun Gong practitioners are very good. You have done well. We are deeply moved." The tractor driver was also moved by the whole situation and only charged them 10 yuan for his labor.
Once, when I met this deaf and mute practitioner, I asked him in writing, "Why are you are helping people like this?" He wrote back saying, "I do this voluntarily. I cannot talk so I can only do things silently to validate Dafa and clarify the truth to people."
