(Clearwisdom.net, January 12, 2004) At 3 P.M. on December 30, 2003, UK Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Embassy in London to mourn the death of Liu Chengjun, a Falun Gong practitioner from the Chinese city of Changchun. Liu was tortured to death recently after being arrested and imprisoned for 22 months because he tapped into TV broadcasts to transmit a video exposing the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. UK practitioners appealed for an immediate investigation into Liu's death, so that the murderers can be punished and the persecution can be brought to an end.
The press conference was hosted by Peter Jauhal, spokesman for the UK Falun Dafa Association. Several practitioners held photos of Liu Chengjun during the press conference while others displayed banners that called for an end to the persecution. A representative of the UK Falun Dafa Association read out a statement denouncing the brutal massacre of Falun Gong practitioners committed by the Jiang regime. It also demanded that the Chinese government impose severe punishments on the murderers and bring the primary instigator of this persecution, Jiang Zemin, and his accomplices to justice. Another practitioner read a public letter addressed to Chinese people worldwide from the "Global Committee for Rescuing Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners." The letter called on all of the governments, citizens and international organizations to stop the genocide occurring in China.
Ninety-one-year-old former senior UK diplomat Lord Thurlow, who also practices Falun Gong, delivered a speech at the press conference. He expressed admiration and praise for the Falun Gong practitioners, represented by Liu Chengjun, who devote their lives to upholding freedom of belief. He also pointed out that this tragedy has once again made people worldwide recognize this inhuman persecution that the Jiang regime is conducting against Falun Gong practitioners.
Upon the completion of the press conference, practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts as a group.
