MOSCOW, Aug 14, 2001 -- (RFE/RL) The Chinese government has asked Moscow to suspend the activities of Russian followers of the Chinese [group] Falun Gong, which has been banned by Beijing, ITAR-TASS reported on 10 August.
The Chinese government also requested that the Russian government prevent Falun Gong's members from holding a planned press conference in Moscow.
In a letter handed over by the Chinese military attache in Moscow to the Russian Interior Ministry, the Chinese side expressed its appreciation for that ministry's efforts to combat "religious sects of extremist nature."
