[Clearwisdom Net] Wu Jie, female, a 24-year-old native of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province , who now lives in Haikou, Hainan Province, was a student at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University Campus B, (formerly Chongqing University of Architecture). She started practicing Falun Dafa in 1996 and became a volunteer contact person for student practitioners at the university. Initially, students and faculty practiced together. Wu Jie, along with Zhang Wei and Wang Yongqiang, spread Falun Dafa among the students, and soon about two dozen students started practicing. They practiced and studied in a rain shelter near the Laboratories Building for lack of a more appropriate place. Wu Jie bought a cassette player and batteries, and brought them to school every day, rain or shine. Once she began practicing Falun Dafa, her academic performance improved tremendously. She ranked second in her class in the February to July term in 1999. She lent a helping hand to whoever needed it and greatly impressed her fellow students and professors.
On July 23, upset by the media's smear campaign against Falun Dafa, she went to the Hainan Provincial Government to express her views, and was detained there for three days. She was locked up in a cell so small it could barely contain a single bed.
On September 13, 1999, she went to the National Grievance Bureau in Beijing and was detained at the Chongqing Municipal Government Resident Office before being back to Chongqing University for a month of brainwashing . Her scholarship was suspended indefinitely even after she resumed her classes.
On September 30, 2000, hearing that she was targeted for another brainwashing class at the university, Wu Jie attempted to leave school, but was intercepted by the university authorities. She was then detained in isolation in the Guesthouse for Foreigners. The university authorities told her that she would have to stay there until she was transformed. They also received word from the Chongqing municipal government that it was all right to take tougher measures against her if Wu Jie refused to transform. Wu Jie went on a seven-day hunger strike. She was suspended from the university after that.
In January 2001, Wu Jie went to Beijing. She was just helping a stricken fellow practitioner to get up when she was arrested and taken away to the local Public Security office, where she was beaten before being sent back to Chongqing. She was detained at the Baiheling Detention Center, Chongqing, for fifteen days before she was finally released on Chinese New Year's Eve. She was again inducted into a brainwashing class and was released only after she went on another seven-day hunger strike. She was then suspended from school for another year.
Zhang Zhihu, a 32-year-old male graduate student at the College of Architecture and Engineering, Chongqing University (Campus B), started practicing Falun Dafa in 1996.
On September 13, 1999, Zhang Zhihu went to Beijing to present an appeal at the National Grievance Bureau. He was arrested and sent to the Chongqing Municipal Government Resident Office in Beijing. The university authorities took him back and placed him in a brainwashing class and held him there for one month.
In April 2000, Zhang Zhihu went to Tiananmen Square to validate Falun Dafa, when Premier Zhu Rongji was meeting with the Prime Minister of India. Zhang Zhihu crossed the police line in order to speak to Premier Zhu. He was arrested and beaten up. After he was sent back to Chongqing, he was locked up in Baiheling Detention Center for fifteen days.
On June 19, 2000, he went back to Zhongnanhai, Beijing to appeal. He was arrested and taken to the Dongcheng District Public Security Neighborhood Office, where he was tortured with an electric baton. His body was burned all over. Then he was sent to Baiheling Detention Center in Chongqing, where he was again detained for fifteen days. Following that, he was sent to a labor camp for a year. He is now locked up in the Chongqing Xishanping Labor Camp.
Mei Guinan, a 24-year-old male graduate of the College of Architecture and Engineering, Chongqing University (Campus B) also started practicing Falun Dafa in 1996.
On September 13, 1999. Mei Guinan went to the National Grievance Bureau in Beijing. He was arrested and sent to the Chongqing Municipal Government Resident Office. After he was brought back to the university, he was sent to a brainwashing class for a month. His scholarship was suspended when he tried to return to classes.
In June 2000, Mei Guinan went back to Beijing to appeal at the Grievance Bureau. He was arrested, sent back to Chongqing, locked up in the Beiheling Detention Center for fifteen days, and then detained by university authorities for over a month. He has not been able to find a stable job since graduation.
In December 2000, he went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. He was beaten up after he unfurled a banner. He was then sent to Beijing's Chongwen District Detention Center, where he was released after he was forced to tell his name and address.
In January 2001, Mei Guinan again returned to Tiananmen Square. He was arrested and tortured at a local police station, where the police learned his name and address from his pager. He was sent back to Jiangxi Province, his birthplace, and was locked up there for four months. He is now under house arrest. Authorities there are considering sending him to a labor camp for two years.
Mi Xiaozheng, a 23-year-old female student at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Class of 1996, from Hebei Province, started practicing Falun Dafa in 1998.
On September 13, 1999, Mi Xiaozheng went to the National Grievance Bureau in Beijing and was arrested and handed over to the Chongqing Municipal Government Resident Office. After she was brought back to the university, she was sent to a brainwashing class for a month. Her scholarship was also suspended.
On September 30, 2000, Mi Xiaozheng was taken away suddenly by university authorities for a brainwashing class, where she had to pay 1600 Yuan (approximately 3 month's salary for an average urban worker) for daily accommodations. She went on a hunger strike and was later released and picked up by her family. She was again suspended from school.
In December 2000, Mi Xiaozheng went back to Tiananmen Square, where she unfurled a banner supporting Dafa. She was arrested and beaten in the square. She was then sent to the Beijing Qianmen Public Security Neighborhood Office, where she was tortured further before being sent to Chongwen District Detention Center. She was eventually released.
On January 1, 2000, she again returned to Tiananmen Square, where the police beat her into a coma. She was then sent to Mentougou Detention Center. She was released after she went on an eleven-day hunger strike. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
Yang Chengbao, a 22-year-old male student at the College of Business Administration, Class of 1998, from Shangdong Province, began his practice of Falun Dafa in 1998.
In April 2000, Yang Chengbao went to appeal in Tiananmen Square, where he was arrested and taken to the Tiananmen Police Station. He was beaten up before he was sent back to Chongqing. He was detained in Baiheling Detention Center, Chongqing for fifteen days.
In June 2000, he returned in Beijing, appealing at the National Grievance Bureau for a legal, non-hostile environment for practice. He was sent back to Chongqing, detained for fifteen days, and then expelled from the university. The university sent him back to the village of his birth, where the villagers would not let him stay for fear of being suspected of sympathizing with Falun Gong. Yang Chengbao thus had no place to stay; he was forced to live in the streets.
In December 2000, Yang Chengbao showed up in Tiananmen Square. After displaying a banner, he was beaten up and sent to Chongwen District Detention Center, Beijing.
On January 1, 2001, Yang Chengbao was back in Beijing again. He was arrested and detained in Xicheng District Detention Center, where he went on a hunger strike. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Lu Zhen is a male student at the College of Business Administration, Class of 1997, who grew up in Shandong Province.
In April 2000, Lu Zhen went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing. He was arrested and beaten up at the Tiananmen Police Station. He was then sent back to Chongqing and detained in Baiheling Detention Center for fifteen days.
In June 2000, Lu Zhen again stepped out to validate Dafa. He was arrested at the National Grievance Bureau, detained for fifteen days, expelled from the university, and had no place to stay.
In September 2000, Lu Zhen was arrested for posting Dafa materials. He was sentenced to a labor camp.
Zhang Yougao, a 64-year-old, Senior Engineer at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at Chongqing University, was once recognized as an Outstanding Party Member and Distinguished Staff Member by his employer. He started practicing Falun Dafa in 1993 and was a volunteer contact person in Shapingba District, Chongqing.
On July 22, 1999, Zhang Yougao sent forth righteous thoughts to successfully stop local police who were attempting to ransack his house. The details of the incident are as follows:
On that day, he was at home meditating when suddenly the police knocked at the door and demanded to search his home. He said firmly, "A home is like a country. You need my permission to come in. I am practicing now. Please wait a moment." After finishing his practice, he opened his door. The police entered and saw a picture of Master Li on the wall. They immediately wanted to tear it down. He said, "I believe in retribution. My Master is with me. If you are not afraid of punishment, just go ahead." No one moved.
In June 2000, Zhang Yougao went to Zhongnanhai, Beijing, to express his views. He was arrested and taken to Dongcheng District Public Security Neighborhood Office. Because he refused to tell his name and address, the police shocked him with a high-voltage electric baton until he was burned all over. In the end, the police threatened to damage his copy of Zhuan Falun if he did not cooperate. To protect the book, he told them his name and address. He was later sent to a labor camp in Chongqing.
Gao Honghai, a 30-year-old male from Liaoning Province, graduate of Chongqing University, was employed in Chongqing.
In June 2000, he went to the National Grievance Bureau in Beijing. He was arrested and sent to a labor camp in Chongqing.
Wang Zangkun, a 20-year-old man from Neijiang, Sichuan Province, was a graduate of Chongqing University (Campus A).
In June 2000, he went to Zhongnanhai. He was arrested and sent back to Chongqing, detained for fifteen days, and eventually expelled from the university for continuing to practice Falun Dafa.
