The stricken areas covered nineteen thousand Mu [1Mu= 0.165 acre]
The local people said that at about 5:00pm on June 24, a fierce wind howled, and rain poured down in torrents. The tornado came suddenly together with a hailstorm. Large trees were uprooted, and the leaves of the cotton seedlings were all torn off. The corn seedlings were also hit and broken. The community members said the fierce wind and the rainstorm lasted for one hour, and the hailstorm kept up for nearly ten minutes.
The statistics gathered by the relevant departments in Kaifeng County show that 26,000 Mu of crops were hit by the tornado. The most severely stricken areas covered 19,000 Mu, including 14,000 Mu of cotton, 3,700 Mu of corn, 1,100 Mu of watermelon (no harvestable growth at all), and 200 Mu of other crops.
