VIENNA (KRON). The International Association for Human Rights (IGFM [in German]) blames China: Since the ban of Falun Gong after the failed mediation effort in 1999, approximately 190 members of the Falun Gong spiritual group have died while in police custody. [Actual number is 202; translator] They lost their lives in "gruesome concentration camps and forced labor camps," said Katharine Grieb of the International Association for Human Rights on Thursday in Vienna. The witness present: Zhang Cuiying, a member of Falun Gong who has herself been incarcerated several times. "Female practitioners were stripped naked of their clothing and put into cells together with men; pregnant women were forced to abort the fetus," as she described some of the torture methods. According to human rights watchdogs in Hong Kong, China is holding more than 10,000 Falun Gong members in over 300 concentration/labor camps. The movement supposedly has 70 million followers.
