The sounds reached all the residents within one square kilometer, suffocating the evil. [Nanyang City, Henan Province] Birth Permission Taken Back From a Practitioner Dafa Practitioner Zhang Yanhua, female, 30 years old, is a worker in Nanyang Embroidery Company. At the end of February 2000, Zhang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. At the time, she was six months pregnant. She was taken back to her hometown and kept under police custody for one month, and she was fined 2,000 Yuan [the average monthly income of an urban worker is 500 Yuan.] The head of her company took back the birth permission [translator's note: Under the one child policy in China, giving birth requires official permission.] So when she gave birth to her child, she had to go to a private doctor. Even now, her baby hasn't received a residential permit. Before New Year's Day of 2001, her whole family went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa again, and she was arrested. Currently, she and her 30-year-old husband Ding Jiangguo are being detained in the Inspection Station in Yongan Street of Nanyang. There, he was sentenced to two and a half years in labor camps. The baby's grandmother was also held in that same inspection station. As a result the baby, who is less than one year old, has been separated from his family for months. We'd like to call for the attention of all the kind-hearted people on this matter. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Zhoushuizi Re-education Center Brutally Tortures Dafa Practitioners Zhoushuizi Reeducation Center has recently received orders from their superiors to reform Dafa practitioners with violence. The police there adopted the most vicious means of torture. It was said that some practitioners "jumped" from the building in the re-education center. One young female died on the spot, and another female was seriously injured. Meanwhile, the situation of other practitioners remains unknown. After the incident, the reeducation center tried everything to block the news and hide their crime. We strongly call upon family members of Dafa practitioners and people with righteous minds to help the Dafa practitioners. [Sichuan Province] Party Secretary Instructs Cable TV Station to Smear Falun Dafa Zhou Yongkang, Party Secretary in Sichuan Province, brother-in-law of Zeng Qinghong, (one of the few Chinese leaders who has a reputation for viciously persecuting Dafa), instructed the local cable TV station in Sichuan to produce a program smearing Falun Dafa. It was a 20-episode series, with one episode per night starting on March 16, 2001. Zhou intends to get publicity by smearing Falun Dafa, selling out his own conscience. The facts were turned upside down in the program, and the distorted stories exerted a very bad influence among viewers. [Linshui, Sichuan Province] Model Teacher Sentenced to Jail for Five Years for Spreading Dafa Flyers Jiang Zemin and his associates have intensified their persecution of Falun Dafa in Sichuan Province. Chen Yumei (female), middle school teacher of Liutang Town, Linshui County, was arrested in October of 2000 for spreading Dafa flyers. On March 15, 2001, she was illegally sentenced to five years in prison. While in court, she insisted "Falun Dafa is good," causing some who were present to shed tears. Chen is known as an exemplary teacher in the school, producing a "Class of Excellence" year after year. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Dongxihu District Illegally Detains Dafa Practitioners Dongxihu District in Wuhan City placed some Falun Gong practitioners together in two classrooms in a school under the name of "guarded living." They put an iron door in the corridor, locked it, and set up a 24-hour guard. There they carried out an illegal "reform." The Dafa practitioners, however, didn't follow the arrangement of the evil force. Three practitioners walked out, to the shock of the officials. The following is an excerpt from the regulations as stipulated by Office 610 (An office created by the government to deal specifically with issues related to Falun Gong). It is an example of how Jiang Zemin and his associates ignore the will of the people, trample over the law, and persecute Falun Gong. (Original Text) Class Regulations for the Education and Reform of Falun Gong Practitioners

1. Follow the class schedule, listen to the instructor attentively, study the assigned materials, take good notes, write detailed report of understanding, and work hard to reform as soon as possible from the bottom of the reformee's heart.
2. Establishing contacts, instigation, and performing Falun Gong exercises are forbidden. No spreading of the evil ideas, no conversation about making appeals, banding together, or doing exercises. Those who violate these rules will be warned, and those still violate them will be put into solitary confinement. If a report of understanding after study fails to meet the requirements for three times, the punishment will be solitary confinement.
3. Leaving the classroom or trying to make outside contact is forbidden.
4. Obey the management unconditionally. Any form of resistance is forbidden.
5. If not reformed after the education, the reformee will continue to be put under "guarded living" or other administrative punishment. The boarding fee during the "guarded living" and attending the reform class is to be paid by the reformee.

[Tonghua City, Jilin Province] "Reform Team" Is Organized Since Beijing started the anti-Falun Gong campaign asking for one million signatures, many places in China imitated this action. There is no such thing as "sign out of free will." People received orders from leaders in all ranks and business to sign their names. It was considered as a response to the directive of the Central Party. Otherwise, ordinary people would be treated the same as practitioners of Falun Gong. Even students in middle schools and primary schools were not able to escape this. Last November, business enterprises and organizations in Jilin Province issued a document with papers of Confession, Promise, and Criticism for Falun Gong practitioners to sign. Those who refused to sign were threatened with dismissal from the Party or their workplace, and sometimes even with being sent to labor camps. The "Reform Team" was organized in Tonghua City in Jilin Province in March 2001, forcing practitioners to turn away from their beliefs. The delegation first used negative materials to coax and deceive people, and then threatened them with labor camp or prison. Many practitioners are steadfast though. According to a government official, "Those practitioners will be sentenced for one to three years in a labor camp." [Haicheng City, Liaoning Province] Practitioners Are Arrested and Displaced Without Reason From March 6 to 9, 2001, Xiliu Police Station of Haicheng City Police Department arrested practitioners from their homes. The arrested include Meng Yong (male), Wang Jinbiao (male), Li Chunyan (female), Zhao Junfang (female), Li Decheng (male), and Wang Xiaoping (female). Hu Dawei, male, 36, was under such pressure from the local government, that he has had to stay away from home since November of 2000. Zhao Fengkun, female, 45, and Cui Xiujun, female, 35, were also displaced. [Chongqin, Sichuan Province] Gao Yunxia Is To Be Sentenced Gao Yunxia, from Changshou County in Chongqin, was arrested on her way to Beijing last December. Because she refused to compromise with the evil force, the local court is going to put her on trial at the beginning of April 2001. We'd like to call the attention of kind-hearted people to the case. [Jinyun County, Zhejiang Province] More than Thirty Practitioners Were Secretly Arrested More than thirty practitioners were secretly arrested in Jinyun County, Zhejiang Province. Some were taken from their homes in the middle of the night. A practitioner was not released even after the jail term was up. The practitioner's spouse went over to query the matter and was, too, taken under arrest.
