[Northwest China] Dafa Practitioner Bravely Withstands the Tortures and Passes through the Tribulations
On November 21, 1999, Chen Weihong (pseudonym) from a City in Northeast of China was arrested illegally for his determination to practice Dafa. He endured torture in the labor camps of Jinzhou City, Shishan City, and Panjin City for more than one year. At the beginning, he was sentenced to 3-years of forced labor. In the labor camp, he endured various kinds of cruel tortures, such as being shocked, having a screwdriver rolled over his spine, being pierced with a steel needle, scratching the soles of his feet with a knife, burning his neck and head with a flame, etc. Police beat him into unconsciousness with wooden clubs several times and shocked him with an electric baton set at nearly one thousand volts. As he was very determined and never yielded, the police handcuffed and shackled him in a special small cell designed for intensive classes for several months. The police also instigated inmates to injure his penis. During the whole detention period, he refused to wear the red uniform jacket for prisoners, which had quite an impact in the labor camp. Because he never yielded to the police, his 3-year forced labor was reduced to 7 months and at last he was released after being labeled with "Tuberculosis." He passed through all the tests and came out successfully.
[Anping County, Hebei Province] Police Brutally Persecute Dafa Practitioners
Since July 20, 1999 more than 60 Dafa practitioners from Anping County have been illegally detained and even sentenced to forced labor for as long as three years for going to Beijing to appeal. Police made the utmost effort to persecute, intimidate, ransack practitioner's homes, and even threaten their family members to pay a so-called pledge, ranging in amount from one hundred to one thousand RMB Yuan (the average yearly income is less than 2,500 RMB Yuan in rural areas). Some practitioners have been fined more than once. In the eyes of the local people, the police are as bad as criminals.
In addition, 20 practitioners from other areas are detained in Anping County because they went to Beijing to appeal and refused to tell their names.
[Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Police Persecute Dafa Practitioners more Brutally During the New Year Holiday
When approaching the New Year Day, the Shenzhou City Government, Hebei Province reinforced their control, deception and arresting of Dafa practitioners in fear that they would go to Beijing to appeal. Some practitioners had to flee their homes in order to avoid being arrested. Among them were Meng Jianxin from Mazhuang Village, Tangfeng Town, Zhao Shuzan from Zhaochanyuan Village, and Hui Lin from Matun village, etc. In addition, a practitioner from Bingcao Town was escorted back by the town government after appealing to higher-level authorities and was intimidated to pay a fine of 6,000 RMB Yuan. The local government officers ransacked practitioners' homes and even drove away practitioners' tractors.
On December 16, 2000, colorful Dafa banners were hung on trees along the roads and in some villages in north Shen County. Soon after, the police searched the most likely Falun Gong practitioners' homes one by one in Shaopu Village, Bingcao Town and arrested 3 Dafa practitioners.
An insider disclosed that nearly one hundred Dafa practitioners were arrested around New Year's Day and detained in Shenzhou City Detention Center. Among them are 10 Dafa practitioners from other areas who went to Beijing to appeal and refused to tell their names. Police persecute these practitioners by detentions of unlimited terms.

Since 1999 to the end of last year, 4 Falun Gong practitioners were illegally imprisoned and sentenced to forced labor. However, the number of practitioners arrested around New Year's Day and illegally sentenced to forced labor on January 12, 2001 are as many as 28, which is over 6 times of the total number in the past 18 months. Of Dafa Practitioners During Spring Festival
Shen Zhanqun is the newly appointed General Secretary of the Party Committee (in Xinji City). The Mayor's name is Ge. They diligently persecuted Dafa practitioners soon after taking office. Zhang Boyu, former Dafa contact person of Xinji city was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment. Former assistant contact persons Xu Liang and Zhang Kai were sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment. Former Dafa assistant Bian Cun (female) was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment. Dafa practitioners Chen Yufeng, Cao Yingbin, Bai Lihua and Qi Yue were all sentenced to 2 years of forced labor for going to Beijing to appeal and distributing Dafa truth clarifying material. All of the practitioners were forced to write the "guarantee statement" and pay at least 2000 Yuan (the average monthly salary in a typical Chinese city is 700 Yuan). Those practitioners who refused to write the "guarantee statement" were brought to the detention center have not been released. Practitioners who have written the "guarantee statement" are still required to report daily to their work units or residential committees.
[Beijing] Eye Witness Account on Tiananmen Square for the Morning of January 2, 2001
On the morning of January 2, 2001, we walked steadfastly to Tiananmen Square, which was closely guarded by the police. When I saw fellow practitioners unfurling banners and running towards the center of the square, my mind had a solemn and stirring feeling. At this time, a policeman walked up to me. He seemed to know we were about to take action and asked for my ID and wanted to know where I was from. I took out the banner and said assuredly: "I am a Falun Dafa practitioner!" "Return justice to my teacher! Return justice to Dafa!" This policeman kicked my stomach with his knee and pressed me to the ground by pulling my hair with all his strength. A group of policemen, (some in plain clothes), rushed over and beat me. My hair was pulled off in clumps. Many places on my head are still bald. The largest bald spot is about the size of a palm. They dragged me into a police car. At that time, there were already three Dafa practitioners in the car. Among them, there was a young mother holding an infant. A policeman kicked me fiercely. He also cursed me and stomped hard on my body. I saw another policeman beating a Dafa practitioner using his police club. I grabbed his clothes and said: "Officer, you are not allowed to beat people!" Before I finished speaking, he cursed and beat me. They beat us like this repeatedly. Sometimes, they beat on the baby who was less than 1 year old, and made the child cry. That criminal in a uniform only stopped when the police club he used was bent 90 degrees from the beating. At that time, I saw the blood stains on the light blue colored car seat. It must have been the blood of a Dafa practitioner who was beaten.
We were taken to the Tiananmen Square Police Station by force. A group of police illegally searched our bodies and bags and pushed us into a narrow alley for detention. We stood in the chilly wind for nearly 3 hours. In spite of this, we still kept in mind Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and took every opportunity to promote Dafa and clarify the truth of Dafa to the police who were there. We also frequently recited "Lun Yu" (the preface of Zhuan Falun) and some of teacher's scriptures. About 2:00PM in the afternoon, we were escorted like prisoners in a van to the Chaoyang District Detention Center. In the detention center, they forced us to sit on the cement floor in the cold wind. One fellow practitioner called out: "Falun Dafa is good!" He was immediately beaten to the ground by the police officers. The police were very cold and exchanged their posts often. More than one hour later, they forced us to take off our jackets, leaving only an unlined garment, and squat down waiting for their so-called "physical examination". Many Dafa practitioners were taken away and their whereabouts are still unknown. Many of us were considered "not qualified" and were released from the detention center. We walked to the taxi painfully. The taxi drivers said:" You only have slight wounds. It is very often that Falun Gong practitioners are injured and disabled!" I found my wallet was missing when I tried to pay the fare. Some policeman probably stole it during the body search in Tiananmen Square Police Station. It was less than 100 Yuan. These policemen were no different than thieves.
[Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Shijiazhuang Labor Camp Detains Dafa Practitioners
At noon on January 1, 2001, Dafa practitioner Xing from Nangong and a female Dafa practitioner (Zhang Huiguang's mother) from Ji County were arrested while hanging banners and posting flyers in Shijiazhuang. Later, they were sentenced to forced labor and are now detained with the No. 5 Team of Shijiazhuang Labor Camp.
Lu Huanzhen, 68, was arrested in the morning of January 3, 2001 while posting Dafa posters. After being detained for 1 month, Lu was sent to the No. 5 Team of Shijiazhuang Labor Camp to serve 2 years of forced labor.

Volume 10 of the elementary textbook entitled "Ideology and Moral Character", published by Hebei Province Publishing Company, contains content that slanders Teacher and Dafa. The wicked people do not even leave elementary pupils alone, and instill the malicious lies into the minds of children. This book is being used in Hebei Province. [Xingtai City, Hebei Province] Three Female Practitioners Detained for Telling the Truth
On January 27, 2001, three of us went to a village to distribute Dafa truth clarifying material. We were reported by wicked people and illegally arrested by the deputy director (surname is Guo) and others from the Nanxiaowang Police Station in Qiaodong District, Xingtai City.
We told them that what they were doing was illegal. Five policemen beat us fiercely and searched our bodies in an indecent way and planned to detain us. We realized that we should not cooperate with them; therefore, we refused to tell them our names and addresses no matter what kind of hypocritical words they used to trick us.
The next day, during the interrogation, the policeman Zhang Jingting insulted us by searching our bodies indecently. We formally complained about this indecent act and he stopped. This policeman then fabricated lies to slander the Teacher. We told him: "As policeman, you are responsible for your words. Don't help a tyrant to suppress the people; don't fabricate and spread lies." The policeman left gloomily.
We were enlightened that we need to break through the arrangements made by those that oppose Dafa and not allow ourselves to be persecuted by them. By the great power of Dafa, we opened our handcuffs and walked out of the police station and joined the mighty torrent that is suffocating the evil and validating Dafa.

[Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Vicious Police in Guangzhou Detention Center Persecute Dafa Practitioners in Custody
The authorities of Guangzhou City converted a local Temporary Housing and Transferring Center into a detention center to detain Dafa practitioners. The center is located at No.41 Shuiyin Siheng Street, Shuiyin Road, Guangzhou City. (Phone: 86-20-87714717).
Between the New Year's Day (Jan. 1st, 2001) and the Chinese Spring Festival's Day (Jan. 24th, 2001), the center detained about 30 female Dafa practitioners in three rooms who refused to tell their names and addresses. They were deprived of physical freedom. Some of them had been detained for half a year.
The police guards persecute them brutally. The practitioners were given a little food and water daily. Due to malnutrition and lack of salt, some practitioners have lost a lot of weight, their faces have lost their color and their hair has turned gray. The guards didn't provide daily necessities, even water for washing and cleaning. One mother and her one-year-old baby were also detained in this center. At the beginning, the guards took away the powdered milk and the feeding bottle forcefully, and in turn provided her a little watery gruel to feed the baby. Later, the guards separated the mother and her baby into two rooms to torture them physically and mentally.

[Wuhan city, Hubei Province] Expose the Illegal Actions of Vicious Wang Jinzhang from Wuhan Steel Plant
Wang Jinzhang is a member of XX Party Committee of Electrical Equipment Repairing Factory of Wuhan Steel Plant. Wang organized further persecution of practitioner Li Zhe (previously using Chen Yan as pseudonym). On February 1, 2001 (Lunar January 8th), when Li Zhe arrived at the factory to work, Wang fabricated a story to get him into an office room on the second floor. Then Wang detained him illegally and spread rumors to cover up his illegal kidnapping.
Other employees in the factory were forced to keep their resentment hidden. They all know that Li Zhe is an honest and good person, and has not committed any wrongdoing. In private, they say that Wang has ruined a good and talented young man.
Some people said that after they saw what Wang Jinzhang did to Li Zhe, they are certain that the "Self-immolation incident" broadcast on TV is a prearranged event contrived to persecute Falun Gong pracitioners.
We call for International Human Right Organizations to pay attention to such illegal actions that publicly violates the basic human rights.

[Ningxiang County, Hunan Province] Vicious Local Authorities Persecute Dafa Practitioners by Forcefully Taking away their Personal Property
Qiu Zefu, 67 years old, is from Qihu Village, Batang Town, Ningxiang County, Hunan Province. He has no children or relatives to depend on. In March 2000, the local authority arrested him when he was on the way to Beijing to appeal, and then took away his grain, over 700 Jin (about 770 lbs.) by force.
Liu Shutang is 70 years old. In December 2000, he was arrested on his way to appeal. The authority put him into detention and took away his grain, over 300 Jin (about 330 lbs.) by force. The authorities also forcefully took away his new set of liquid-gas stove given to him by his daughter, a set of table and chairs, and other furniture.
Sun Guiquan, single, is 55 years old. For practicing Falun Gong, the local authorities took away his set of table and chairs and a bowl cabinet by force.
