Bart Staes, a Europe parliament member in Paris, wrote to Chinese premier, Mr. Zhu Rongji, on December 12 of 2000, requesting that the Chinese government release the Falun Gong practitioner from Ireland, Mr. Zhao Ming.
Bart Staes asked the Chinese government to respect and follow the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that China signed in 1998. The letter also asked the premier to start independent investigations on the torture of Zhao Ming and other Falun Gong practitioners, and punish those involved to ensure people's rights to practice their beliefs peacefully.
