A look at religious life in the Triangle. Seven-year-old Kevin Tie practices Falun Dafa exercises outside the International House at Duke University in Durham. Falun Dafa, which is not an organized religion but a spiritual practice based upon the principles of truth, compassion and forbearance, was introduced to the public by Chinese Master Li Hongzhi in 1992. "Falun Dafa is a non-dogmatic, 100 percent free spiritual practice that helps individuals become better people by cultivating mind, body and spirit," practitioner Thai Ton said. Falun Dafa, also know as Falun Gong, has spread rapidly, with about 100 million practitioners in more than 30 countries today. |
