Dear Honorable Ambassador Li Zhaoxin,
We are deeply concerned with the situation of Du Xiaohua and Lin Xiaoxu (wife and husband), who were detained in Fuzhou on Sept. 6 when they traveled to China to pay their last visit to Xiaoxu's dying father. They were detained in the Fuzhou Airport for two day for "carrying Falun Gong related materials" before they were bailed out to attend the father's funeral. Du Xiaohua was planning to be back in Atlanta on last Thursday but she was kept from leaving China. Their passports were confiscated and they are essentially under house arrest up to this day.
Du Xiaohua is a graduate of Tsinghua University, Ph.D. of Georgia Tech, and currently an engineer at Siemens Corporation. Lin Xiaoxu is a Ph.D. student in the University of Alabama. They were married about four months ago and it was the first time for Xiaohua to see her parents-in-laws.
As friends, schoolmates, fellow Falun Gong practitioners, knowing what happened to other Falun Gong practitioners in China, we are deeply concerned with the situation of Xiaohua and Xiaoxu. We believe the reaction of the Chinese government towards Falun Gong is highly un-necessary. The persecution has inadvertently damaged the future of the Chinese nation and the government. We hope, as a wise leader of the country, you could help to resolve the current crisis with Falun Gong in a peaceful way, and in particular, to release Du Xiaohua and Lin Xiaoxu.
Thank you very much.
Yours respectfully and sincerely,
Friends of Du Xiaohua and Lin Xiaoxu
Falun Gong practitioners in Atlanta
