On September 6, 2000, about 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners from 30 countries and over 30 states in the United States gathered in Manhattan for a peaceful parade in New York City. They were here to appeal to the governments and kind-hearted people of all nations to call on the Chinese government to stop its brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China.
Practitioners in the front of the parade carried a wreath made of white flowers and green cypress. The names of 50 practitioners who were persecuted to death by the Chinese government were displayed on the wreath. Two hundred female practitioners dressed in white held white lotus flowers, white roses, or the photos of those practitioners who died due to the persecution. They were followed by others who were dressed mainly in bright yellow T-shirts bearing the message "China: Stop persecuting Falun Gong." With the accompaniment of the solemn music, practitioners marched from the Chinese Mission on 35th Street to the United Nations. They held banners of "Falun Dafa is Good", "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance", "Stop Persecuting Falun Gong", etc. The entire parade was over one mile long which was enough to stop passersby who remarked at the peacefulness and discipline the practitioners showed.
