On July 2, 2000, when practitioner Tao Qingjuan got home after work, she found police officers waiting for her. The police ransacked her home and took her to the police station, where they forced her to write the pledge. Ms. Tao refused, and as a result, she was detained in the Buji detention center.

At 10pm of July 2, 2000, practitioners Peng Gonghui, Xu Chuhua, Jin Xingwang, and other 10 practitioners were arrested from their homes respectively at about the same time. The police said they were going to attend the "study class", but a few days later, they were thrown into the Futian Detention Center. Practitioner Ms. Li Hongyu went to the home of Jun Xingwang to take care of his 9-year-old child. The police arrested her too.

On July 10, 2000, the daughter of a practitioner whose surname was Jian learned from another practitioner that her mother was being detained in a guesthouse, attending a so-called "study class". She had been detained there together with 20 other practitioners for many days.

On the evening of July 25, 2000, the police arrested practitioners Li Ning, Liu Kaifeng, Wen Huasheng, etc., under the excuse of checking their residence certificates. Their whereabouts are unknown.

On July 2, 2000, the police in Shenzhen City took actions against local practitioners simultaneously. Practitioners were required to write pledge. Those who refused were all thrown into local detention centers. Most of the detained practitioners are still in custody. There were not many practitioners with personal freedom. Even those who were not detained were under surveillance and harassment of local police stations and their work units.

Under such harsh conditions, many practitioners were still able to go to Beijing to defend the righteousness of Falun Dafa on the Tiananmen Square. Among these practitioners, many were brutally tortured for refusing to tell the Beijing police their names and addresses. Some were freed unconditionally after six or seven days of hunger strike. Some were able to escape. But the whereabouts of most of them are unknown.
