At the beginning, the school authorities agreed to hold a memorial. They were to give a memorial speech and a valuation for Zhao Xin, and were also going to compose her biography. Meanwhile, her family members would be allowed to give memorials and write the biography and the elegiac couplets based on their thinking. Moreover, there wouldn't be any problem for the funeral vehicles. The school authorities' position was clear. They would be responsible for Zhao Xin's funeral and would do their best to take care of everything in accordance with her family's will. But all of these credits were not completely carried out. Only Zhao Xin's younger sister Zhao Hong made a simple memorial speech. The remains were cremated in a hurry after a simple farewell ceremony. Why did that happen? It was due to the sabotage from the Beijing City Police Department.
When the school authorities reported that the contents of the written memorial speech and the elegiac couplets tended by Zhao Xin's family to Beijing City Police Department, they got in trouble immediately. Why should school authorities have reported this to the Beijing City Police Department? It could either be due to an order from the top or could be ordered by the police department. There had been words in the memorial speech by the school such as, "Ms. Zhao Xin had made a great contribution to our school, etc." The police department was angry with that and compelled the school authorities to withdraw the speech at the memorial. The school authorities lost patience right way after hearing this, "We have promised them to give a memorial speech. How can we cancel it? If you are not satisfied with some word in the speech, we could just change them. How can we not give the speech?" Regardless, the police department did not allow the school authorities to give the memorial speech and forced them to change the contents of the elegiac couplet. The school authorities had no choice under the pressure. At the beginning, the school authorities entitled the funeral meeting as 'Profound Condolence on the Dafa Practitioner Comrade Zhao Xin'. The police department was in a rage. 'It is forbidden to mention that Zhao Xin is a Dafa practitioner!' And even more inconceivable to demand the school authorities remove the word 'Profound'. Such a demand made the school indignant and was rejected immediately. What we saw in the funeral was 'Profound Condolence on Comrade Zhao Xin'. The teachers in the school later expressed their indignation after hearing this. Actually they are not allowed to say or write anything on this, but almost everyone that knows Zhao Xin at the University of Industry and Commerce understands what the issue is about, and is aware that Zhao Xin was a practitioner and how she was murdered.
On the 13th, the day of Zhao Xin's funeral, it was said that a person dispatched by the chief of Beijing City Police Department came to the school in the morning to 'talk' to Zhao Xin's family members. He clearly demanded that there would be neither Dafa's music allowed in the room nor the words concerning Falun Gong allowed in the memorial speech and the elegiac couplets. Then he pointed to a pair of elegiac couplets with the words 'When the Fa rectifies the universe, sisters will meet in the paradise' and interrogated them on what was the meaning of 'the Fa rectifies'. With a piece of junk paper in his hand, he claimed that according to the relevant rules, it was forbidden to spread Falun Gong in public places and threatened the family members that whoever violated this would be stopped and placed under arrest immediately. For the safety of the practitioners, the family members conceded to change the content of the memorial speech and the elegiac couplets, with the prerequisite that no one would be placed under arrest by the police department and everyone should be free to come and go. The police department readily promised, however, at that time they arrested four persons on the spot. One was Hao Yi. Another was a man about 30 years old, who put a piece of paper with some words on Zhao Xin's body when expressing the farewell. He was placed under arrest by a plainclothes police officer at the corner of the street. The other two were foreign journalists who were placed under custody before the funeral vehicle arrived. Some people from the school said later, "Why should they be scared of their taking pictures? What's wrong with that?" Another person was caught when taking videos. His video camera was confiscated and has not yet been returned. Afterwards Zhao Xin's parents asked the relevant people from the school for help to deal with the police department to get the arrested persons released and to get the video camera back. The school authorities promised they would try.
The police department threatened the school not to send many vehicles, at most one mid-size bus and one larger bus. But the school authorities, under pressure, added one more vehicle. On the way to Babao Mountain, one police car was leading, followed by at least three other police cars. When the vehicles passed through Changan Street, other police cars were on both sides of the road. There were lots of plainclothes policemen at Babao Mountain. We thought that was it at that time, but afterwards someone told us that the Changan street was under martial law. The city police department almost transferred all of the city police power there and closed all of the roads and intersections. Between 2-3pm, the vehicles from the University of Industry and Commerce (marked with university signs) would be free to pass without being stopped. No red lights were allowed, to assure the funeral vehicles arriving in Babao Mountain as soon as possible without any 'surprises' along the way.
The school authorities, under pressure, cancelled one side of the schedule of the memorial, but they didn't tell the family members in advance. It resulted in a dispute at the gate of the farewell room. They made some concessions later by permitting Zhao Hong to give a memorial speech, but they only let Zhao Xin's family members into the farewell room, while the others were kept outside. Zhao Xin's mother cried three times asking for everyone to be allowed inside, so they let some people in one after another, but the farewell room was still not fully filled. Right after Zhao Hong gave the memorial speech and the farewell ceremony was over, Zhao Xin's parents were pushed into a car and left at once. It was said that the car had been waiting outside with the engine running since entering Babao Mountain.
The above is what we have known so far about the Beijing City Police Department's behavior on the issue. They concentrated a big police force, gave the funeral vehicles green lights all the way down, and made a hasty farewell ceremony at Babao Mountain. After the ceremony, they sent Zhao Xin's family members back home in a hurry. It was their wish to get Zhao Xin's funeral done as soon as possible. As for not allowing the reading of the memorial speech, their intention was implicitly clear.
It was said that the school put almost all of its effort on Zhao Xin's funeral and the school had been under pressure from the very beginning. Although the school authorities yielded to the abuse of power from Beijing City Police Department, by getting through this issue, almost all of the teachers, including the top, and even the students were very indignant to the city police department's behavior. At Babao Mountain, what impressed the school faculty the most were the Dafa practitioners in perfect order at the gate of the farewell room. Without anyone in charge, the practitioners divided into two lines and stood still with a bunch of chrysanthemums in everyone's hand. They felt the Falun Gong practitioners were well mannered. Quite contrary, they couldn't understand the police department's behavior, "What do they want? So many plainclothes officers are here. Aren't these pretty good people?" At that time there was another deceased in farewell room 2. The people that attended the ceremony there were surprised what happened at the gate of our farewell room 3. They asked us, "Why so many people? What kind of high ranking official?" We realized from this that without spreading materials, without lot's said in the memorial speech, the strict requirement that Dafa practitioners be good people under any circumstances may play a role to prove Dafa at any time. That the practitioners lined up in perfect order showed Dafa to the public and established the prestige of Dafa. Proving Dafa and spreading Dafa are really not limited to any specific form.
The relevant department let the school authorities announce that none of the students would be allowed to take part in the memorial. Many students couldn't understand it either, "We were Ms. Zhao's students. She had been a good teacher. Why not let us go there?" And they really wished to further understand why their teacher Ms. Zhao would rather die than surrender for Falun Gong.
The School didn't assign anything for the faculty to participate in at the memorial, but many of them went anyway. A lot of teachers went there of their own willingness. Some of them had had a regular relationship with Zhao Xin. Because the school and the relevant department blocked the message, they had been unclear about the truth. But after this issue, they began to know the police department's behavior and began to understand what they had not understood about Zhao Xin. Especially, they have new ideas about Dafa. Many people would take initiative to understand Dafa.
