Mass Arrests of Falun Dafa Practitioners in Laiyang, Shandong

Case #1: Suspicion of Sending a Flyer is the Basis for a Naval Officer's Detention

Naval Officer and Falun Dafa practitioner Wang Haichao, age 28, served in an office at the People's Liberation Army Laiyang Troop 37281, an airplane maintenance facility. Because he practiced Falun Gong, he was transferred to the Laiyang Business Bureau and denied a promotion. On Oct 12, 2000, Yang (one of Wang's superior officers), and 2 plainclothes policemen from Laiyang Public Security Bureau arrested him at his home in front of his young wife and one month-old child. When Wang's wife tried to visit him at the Laiyang Detention Center the he next day, she was not allowed to see her husband. The guards only allowed her to give him a change of clothes and the money to purchase a blanket.

Wang's wife is extremely weak, having given birth less than a month ago. This tragedy has affected her tremendously. She is struggling with deep depression, and has been unable to stop crying when people visit her.

A reliable source from the Public Security Bureau has informed us that Wang was arrested because someone had mailed Dafa materials such as 'Truth of Falun Gong' to the Military Commission, which enraged the commissioner. He flew from Beijing to Qingdao and finally traced the evidence to Laiyang. Wang was arrested because he was the most likely candidate for having sent the materials.

Case #2: Frantic Arrest and Torture of People Who Speak The Truth of Falun Dafa To The World.

Since the middle of October 2000, Changing Laiyang City government and police stations have adopted many illegal and immoral tactics in their persecution of Falun Gong. They have arrested over 30 practitioners who had attempted to clarify the Truth of Falun Dafa. These practitioners are being held in the Laiyang detention house. Every day practitioners are cruelly tortured and brutally beaten. Guards have even pushed practitioners' heads into latrines, forcing them to inhale the stench of excrement and urine.

Song Suguang is a former Laiyang Falun Dafa practice site assistant leader. At 5 am on October 16, he was lured into the police station and detained without reason. The police cruelly tortured him in order to get him reveal the names of the practitioners who had distributed Dafa materials.

Case #3: Illegal Arrest

Tao Weizhen (name changed to protect her from further persecution): At 12:30 p.m. on October 18, 4 policemen from the Public Security Bureau and The Criminal Police Team broke into her home and removed her forcibly.

Case #4: Torture and Illegal Seizure of Property

Miao Jinlei (alias): At the dusk of Oct 18, he was taken away from his home by Xu Xiaopeng and Zhang Weidong, policemen from Chengxiang Laiyang Police Station. They ransacked his house and confiscated his computer. Recently many of the evil deeds committed in Laiyang were exposed on the Internet. Miao was arrested because he has a computer printing shop. The police suspected that he could have access to the Internet. The police tied him up tightly, and used electric baton to shock his entire body including his lips. Miao's lips were severely burnt. They forced him to confess that he used the Internet and to reveal his connections.

Case #5: Illegal Detention of Practitioners' Non-Practicing Relatives

Yao Mingli (alias) was also a former Laiyang Falun Dafa practice site assistant leader. On October 20 Qin Hongquan and others from the Policy and Security Unit illegally confiscated his computer when he was not home. The police took his wife (who is not a Falun Dafa practitioner) to the police station. The police threatened to shut down their computer-training center and their computer bookstore if Yao did not surrender himself within 3 days. (The computer-training center has now been shut down). Meanwhile, Yao's brother, Yao Mingjun (a non-practitioner) was also detained because of his brother's practicing Falun Gong. The police confiscated Mingjun's computers and copying machines from his own printing shop. The police have kept Yao Mingjun in custody. Yao Mingli fled and is now missing.

Cases 6 - 10: More Torture, Illegal Detention, and Theft of Property

Li Chungang (alias): On October 20, on his way to the Mall on the East side of town, Li was forced into a car and taken away by the police. They also confiscated his computer and printer. At the same time, a practitioner from Changing Haiyang, who was staying in Li's house, was also arrested.

Gao Song was arrested at his home on October 19 at 12:30 am.

Wang Weihan (alias): On October 20, officers from the Laiyang FungChi Township handcuffed him and dragged him to the Township office, where Yu Hongwen and others stomped on Wang's head with their feet and beat him mercilessly. His arms were seriously sprained. He is still in custody.

Lou Yuli (alias): She was a Laiyang Falun Dafa practice site assistant leader. The Laiyang Public Security police arrested her on October 23.

Liang Shaobo: On October 19, while he was working at home, a Laiyang policeman named Gan, lured him into the police station. Since that time he has not been seen.

All of these Falun Dafa practitioners and many others are locked up in the detention house of Laiyang. Everyday, they are suffering from cruel tortures and inhuman treatment.
