Since July 20 of last year, the public security departments of the Muping district, Yantai have been systematically arresting, detaining, beating and persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. If practitioners insisted on practicing while they were in the detention centers, they would be handcuffed and shackled. They endured the same type of treatment as inmates on death row. In the Public Security Station, two policemen from Zhengyang Police Substation beat Liu Guomin for a whole night because he refused to answer their questions and sign the arrest warrant. They then threw him into the local detention center. When he insisted on practicing Falun Gong there, the guards punished him by putting a heavy chain on him and handcuffed him to the head of the bed. He had less than half of a meter (less than 2 feet) of space in which to move.
Besides detention centers, there are all kinds of locations used for detaining practitioners and holding "Re-education classes." Some practitioners were detained in a Communist Party Advanced Education School for as long as five or six months. Policemen Du Xingmin, Zhang Xiaofeng and Yu Jianjun persecuted practitioners with a variety of methods ranging from verbal abuse to physical torture.
Last July, because the sixty-years-old Yang Shuling broke the detention center rules by sitting cross-legged in the lotus position, policeman Yu Jianjun beat her so badly that her ribs were broken and her body was covered with bruises. She vomited blood everyday for over a month afterwards. On October 1, Muping District Public Security Department illegally detained Jian Ping and seven other practitioners in a Communist Party Advanced Education School. Later, after all of the practitioners went on a hunger strike for five days, they were released.
It was also reported that about forty Dafa practitioners had recently been arrested without any reason in Fushan District, Yantai City.
