Dear Mrs XX,

For your writing from 15 August 2000, in which you drew again attention to the chicaneries against Falun Gong adherents, I thank you in the name of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, above all also on behalf of our Chairman Mr. Friedrich Merz.

Since beginning of the campaign against the Falun Gong movement in the last year we pursue very attentively and with great concern the measures of the Chinese government against your adherents.

We in the group of human rights and humanitarian assistance of our parliamentary group, in which I am the chairman, have been repeatedly occupied with the situation of Falun Gong in the People's Republic of China. Members of our working group met also several times with representatives of the German section of Falun Gong. Furthermore I have had discussions in the Chinese embassy, as well as discussion with a Chinese journalist in which I took the opportunities to express myself extremely critically to the encroachments on your friends in China and to demand the adherence to the human rights. As you surely know, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group devotes itself energetically for the freedom of religion and faith. You can be insured that, in view of the persecution against Falun Gong, this will always remain with us on the agenda.
