After extorting big money from the family members, the police still refused to release the Falun Gong practitioners. The police captain claimed they neither followed the laws nor carried out the Constitution.

Gongzhuling City Police Head: "It's even easier than crushing an ant"

On April 16, 2009, Political Instructor Wang De and Captain Li Jianqi of the Domestic Security Group of Gongzhuling City Police Department and officer Li Hui from Taojia Police Station arrested several Falun Gong practitioners, including Mr. Shen Baogui, Xiao Jie, Chen Hongxiang, Ms. Li Hui, and Wang Hua. The practitioners' children have repeatedly sought the release of their parents.

The police utilized their power to confiscate practitioners' property and cash. After they arrested these practitioners, they regularly extorted money from their families. By now, they have extorted over 60,000 yuan from Mr. Shen Baogui's wife and 50,000 yuan from Xiao Jie's daughter. However, they are still not satisfied and have refused to release the practitioners. They passed the message to these practitioners' families demanding 100,000 yuan more.

Ms. Li Hui's children went to talk to Li Jianqi and Wang De to ask for their mother's release. The following conversation is transcribed from a recording.

Ms. Li's child: "What crime did my mother commit? Which law did you arrest her for breaking?"

Li Jianqi: "Well, let me tell you, we just did it."

Ms. Li's child: "You mean you don't follow the law to do your work?"

Li Jianqi: "No."

Ms. Li's child: "There's no legal basis for what you do?"

Li Jianqi: "No."

Ms. Li's child: "You impose your own brand of justice on people, like crushing an ant?"

Li Jianqi: "It's even easier than crushing an ant."

Ms. Li's child: "On which law did you base the arrest of my mother?"

Li Jianqi: "Her arrest was not according to the law."

Ms. Li's child: "You don't carry out the Constitution?"

Li Jianqi: "No."

Ms. Li's child: "Where can we appeal?"

Wang De: "There is no place to talk about your case. (If we do) kill him, you won't have a place to voice it. I'm just telling you."

Ms. Li's child: "How did you get to be in your position?"

Wang De: "I bought this position with money."

They all admitted that they had used their power to commit illegal acts. At the beginning of November 2009, Li Yaxuan and Chen Dong from Gongzhuling City Court and an assistant of Yue Lin from Gongzhuling City Procuratorate secretly sentenced Ms. Li Hui and Wang Hua based on falsified evidence collected by Li Jianqi and Wang De. When Ms. Li Hui's son-in-law tried to listen in on the proceedings in the hallway outside the courtroom, he was forced out of the building.
