Mr. Jiang Zhonglin Died as a Result of Imprisonment
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Zhonglin, 67, was illegally arrested at his home in Anqing City, Anhui Province on June 20, 2006. The police confiscated, without a legal warrant, family property and stole the 1,000 yuan that Mr. Jiang had in his pocket, the only money he and his family had.
During his illegal detention, the guards did not allow Mr. Jiang to sleep for several days and nights. In addition, he was forced to do heavy labor. Soon the old diseases that he suffered from before he started practicing Falun Gong recurred. The police refused family visits, despite the fact that his family applied for permission to visit several times. The police did not tell Mr. Jiang's family about his health condition.
On November 30, 2006, Mr. Jiang was illegally sentenced to three years in prison and the term was commuted for five years. Mr. Jiang weighed 75kg (165 lbs.) before he was arrested and was in full health. He weighed only about 45kg (99 lbs.) when he was released and could only take in liquid food. He was so weak that he could not climb stairs.
Later, Mr. Jiang could only drink water. He was bedridden and suffered pain over his entire body. He was spitting blood and lost consciousness several times. Mr. Jiang passed away on May 22, 2007 at home.
Ms. Liu Junling Died as a Result of Torture in Detention
Ms. Liu Junling, a Falun Gong practitioner from Niuxibu, Laixi, Shandong Province, started to practice Falun Gong in 1997. In the evening of May 11, 2005, Ms. Liu was arrested by police because she had hung a Falun Gong truth-clarification banner. Some of her property was illegally confiscated and she was detained for two weeks. Then, Ms. Liu was taken to Zibo 2nd Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shandong, without any legal process. She was tortured by camp guards, which resulted in her vomiting blood three times. After she was released on April 17, 2006, she continued vomiting blood. The hospital diagnosis was lung and colon cancer. Ms. Liu passed away on September 12, 2007.
On August 10, 2007, Prison Chief Wang Yongxiang held a meeting with the various Wards at Daqing Prison in Heilongjiang Province. He forbade Falun Gong practitioners illegally detained in the prison from leaving their prison cells. He also made it compulsory for them to wear the prison uniform. If Falun Gong practitioners were found to be wearing their own clothes, the clothes were to either be torn off or stripped off. He also mentioned that the persecution should be accelerated throughout the prison. Some of the practitioners who were in No. 3 Ward were locked into small solitary cells. Their heads were shaved and they were made to wear the prisoner's uniform. Practitioners in other wards were also locked in small solitary cells, but the police sealed the news.
On August 15, Prison Chief Wang brought over twenty policemen from the riot team to the prison. They first went to the 7th Ward. They tried to force practitioner Yu Shengquan to wear the prison uniform, but he refused [Editor's note: Because they have committed no crime, Falun Gong practitioners often protest their illegal detention by refusing the wear the prison uniform]. Thus the policemen used rubber batons to assault him and knocked him unconscious. They then stripped him of his clothes and put the prison uniform on him. Yu Shengquan was injured badly from the beatings.
That same day, these policemen went to the 1st Ward and tried to force practitioner Jiang Derong to put on the prison uniform. He also refused. The police beat him up and then locked him up in a small solitary cell. At the same time, the police also beat up practitioners Wang Yudong and Sun Yueming (his head became misshapen from the beatings). They then locked the practitioners up in small solitary cells and tortured them with the tiger bench. The same thing happened to practitioner Li Ronghong who was illegally locked up in the 2nd Ward.
On August 24, Political Commissar Chen Qingfa and Ward Chief Wang Jiaren lead the police from the riot team to search the prison. They took away the clothes and personal belongings of the practitioners and dragged the practitioners to the square outside. They had a few criminal inmates hold each practitioner to the ground and asked if the practitioner would put on the prison uniform. They refused to listen to the practitioners clarify the truth to them. The practitioners replied that they would not comply, as they were not criminals and should not be in prison. Thus, all the guards from various teams ganged up and used rubber batons to beat the practitioners until the practitioners lost consciousness. Then they forcefully put the prison uniforms on the practitioners and had the criminal inmates drag the practitioners back to the cells.
On the morning of August 28, Prison Chief Wang Yongxiang gathered all the practitioners in the field. They forcefully stripped the clothes off the practitioners and put the prison uniform on them.
Practitioner Mr. Zhang Xingye, who was illegally detained in the 6th Ward, took off the uniform. Ward chief Bo Xuelin then stripped him of his clothes and locked him up in a small solitary cell. He was also chained to a metal chair. Another practitioner whose name was unknown was also locked in the cell.
Wang Shusheng and Dai Zhidong, practitioners who were illegally detained in the 5th Ward, were persecuted so badly that they had difficulty walking.
Zhang Xiufeng (it was not known in which team he was locked up) was in poor health and the recent round of persecution aggravated his condition. He became very weak and had difficulty walking.
Sun Yueming was locked in a solitary cell and tortured with the tiger bench for a dozen days.
Wang Yudong was illegally locked up in the 1st Ward. From mid August, he has been locked in a small solitary cell. There were also a few other practitioners locked up with him.
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiaoli, from Nanwang Village (in Donglu Township, Qingyuan County, Baoding City), was arrested on November 2, 2004. On the same day, she was "illegally sentenced" to three years of forced labor and was detained at Baoding Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Zhang was tortured until traumatized at the labor camp. Moreover, the guards have detained her there beyond her original sentence.
On August 26, 2007, Ms. Zhang's term of forced labor expired. Her husband, Hu Zhanfeng, requested Baoding Forced Labor Camp to release her in the middle of August. Political instructor Yan Qingfen and squadron leader Zhang Guohong claimed that they would not release her until December. Their excuse was that Ms. Zhang violated the regulations of the forced labor camp.
Ms. Zhang's family was in deep sorrow since Zhang Xiaoli was illegally arrested and taken to the forced labor camp. In addition, she was tortured until traumatized and developed various illnesses. Her life was in danger several times.
Over the past few years, Ms. Zhang's husband, Hu Zhanfeng, and her son, Hu Shan, tried various ways to have her released. As a result, they were implicated and persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. At that time, Hu Shan was 16 years old. He had been detained in the County Detention Center for nearly one year. Hu Zhanfeng was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor and was detained at Baoding Forced labor Camp. His medical (doctor) license was canceled. Zhang Xiaoli's family used all kinds of means to appeal for her release. They visited relevant authorities and demanded her unconditional release. In addition, they submitted lawsuit papers to the court, Procuratorate and other relevant authorities.
In June 2006, it was reported that Ms. Zhang Xiaoli was savagely persecuted at the camp; that she was hung up for a long period of time many times. At the same time, she was shocked with electric batons. At around 4:00 a.m. on June 14, guard Bai Jie handcuffed Ms. Zhang to the bed frame and prevented her from sleeping the whole day. Bai Jie shocked her with an electric baton and her screams of pain awoke all the people in the building. Now Ms. Zhang Xiaoli has been traumatized due to the torture.
