Mr. Qi Tingsong Tortured to Death in Laiwu City,
Shandong Province
Mr. Qi Tingsong, 67, lived in Laiwu City, Shandong Province. He was a retired teacher formerly employed by Ezhuang Coal Mine. He was arrested on October 15, 2007, for practicing Falun Gong and died as a result of torture on November 11, 2007.
At around 8 a.m. on October 15, 2007, Mr. Qi Tingsong went to clarify the truth in Gouli Village, Gaozhuang Town, Laicheng District. He was arrested, and Ezhuang Coal Mine Security Office Chief Yang Leping (male), along with police officers including Liu Qing (male) from Laiwu City Department tried to have Mr. Qi sentenced to forced labor. Mr. Qi went on a hunger strike to protest. He was rushed to Laiwu City Hospital for emergency treatment. Liu Qing, Yang Leping, and others refused to pay his medical costs, so the hospital stopped his intravenous drips and medications. Mr. Qi discharged a large quantity of blood from his rectum while unconscious, possibly from internal injuries.
The evildoers saw that Mr. Qi was dying and, to escape responsibility, forced his family to sign to prove he was released. Mr. Qi's family had to transfer him to the Xinen Mine Bureau Central Hospital for emergency treatment. Yang Leping dispatched personnel to watch him closely, claiming that they were "caring" for him. Before being arrested, Mr. Qi was very strong and healthy, with no illnesses and very optimistic and active. However, he was tortured to death in only 26 days.
